Benefits Of High School Education

In studies shown as of today, high school education is presently becoming useless as the years go by, too many students get by. In high schools now students take their education and teachers as jokes; that is to blame on the teachers and higher up staff in the schools because if they were harder on students and not as lenient as they are students would take their high school education serious and not try to get by. High school education needs to be more complex to prepare young adults for the real world and college, if it is considered. EOC’s are not made by teachers but sadly by the school districts and that is where the fault is. The districts make the test “by the book”, they go by a lot of standards that are supposed to be taught in schools but hardly ever are because of the lack of time or lack of effort by the teacher. Teachers teach what they want and how they want to; for the most part they do their own things and do whatever makes them comfortable and teach whatever interests them. Edelstein stated, “Intensive standardized testing not only causes stress in students, but may undermine learning” (1). As a result, students consistently fail the EOC’s because of the lack of preparation and lack of thought from the teachers. In order for most students to get passing grades I have known teachers to always curve the grade so they would not get embarrassed and look like they were not teaching anything. The curriculum needs to be stronger and better because the world is only getting tougher and technology and everything else is getting smarter. Everyone will not go to college, of course, some students want to go straight into the work force and that is understandable because college is not for everybody high school probably was enough. Since everyone does not go to college because unlike high school it is not required high school needs to require more learning and seriousness because if it were to be like that then it would be a less smack in the face once you hit the real world. If high do not try to prepare students for the real world all four of the years, the last year should at least be the year because that is when things really start to get real. Students should be prepared for every tough obstacle that comes their way such as standardized end of course exams, SAT and ACT tests to get into college, and the ultimate goal for many, stepping into the next chapter in life,
