The Pros And Cons Of Drop Out Of High School

As young children, we are asked the cliché “What do you want to be when you grow up” question. Due to high expectations, it is always answered with lawyers, doctors, surgeons, chefs etc. In our minds, at that age, we believe that it is quite simple to obtain or become a member of that profession. In order to become what we envision, we must graduate from high school and receive a certified high school diploma. Lately, the United States are dealing with teenagers dropping out of high school only to find themselves in a low-end job, and life. To be considered a “Drop Out” one must leave high school at the age of sixteen with parental consent. Having teenagers whom do not want to learn, or have other things aside from school to do daily makes them less sufficient learners, and can be a risk in a classroom environment. “We cannot warehouse these kids until they turn 18” once stated by Governor Boshear. In other words, Boshear believes that raising the dropout age of high school is inadequate. Still all in all this argument is invalid because students will learn social skills, and can possibly change their attitude towards learning and staying in school, schools must be willing to engage. High Schools have classes that help a student and counselors to find the students right path and make them feel comfortable. However Governor Boshear may think that students may just keep the students in a “warehouse”, high school has many classes to accustom to student’s needs. For example, Pupil Personnel in Rowan County stated that "We meet every child where they are and help them find ways to be successful for the rest of their life.” (Blair).
