High School Diploma Research Paper

Improved Essays
My most memorable experience is the day I was told I wouldn’t receive my diploma, as I reminisce over my past years in school, I tried to do the best I could in every subject, what I failed to do was to ask questions, engage myself with my counselors (advisers) and to do my research on the classes I needed to acquire my diploma. This was the first stepping stone to further my long term goals in my career path. When I realized my situation, I knew my move to Florida was a big mistake. I was attending a school in Massachusetts named Science and Technology; and I had already completed all my classes and the state mandated test there, which is called the MCAS before I relocated. When I moved to Haines City, Florida and transferred to Haines City High School the guidance counselors told me that the state of Florida would not accept my test scores from Massachusetts. She further stated I would have to take the FCAT here and the ACT so that, if I failed one of the tests the other would replace the requirement thereby allowing me to graduate with a regular High school diploma. As a result, I wasn't focused and I failed both tests. …show more content…
When I got the results again, my heart was crushed because I failed by a few points again. Next, I was told to go register for Ridge Career Center and take classes there along with studying for the FCAT, which would allow me once again to get my high school diploma. As I attended the school my dad contacted my mom and told her of his health issues and that he would be put in ICU for a severe bacterial infection in his colon. Therefore, I stop focusing on school and started working so I could save money for me, my mom, and brothers to go visit

Although it took me quite some time to realize, I have been preparing for my major and career all my life. When I started fifth grade, my teacher fostered my love for reading by challenging me to read books that were much more difficult for my grade level because they addressed heavy subjects. Transitioning from high school to college was a BIG change for me. There are so many new faces and experiences to be had in college, but growing up in a town with a population of 4,000, you don’t really get to see many new faces. I am hoping within my next 3 ½ years here at Lincoln, I will grow as a person and as a woman, like I never could in the small town I grew up in. High school was not “the best time of my life”, in fact it was probably the worst time of my life. I never really liked school, even from the very beginning I completely dreaded going.…
