High School Community Analysis

A community that I was part of for a long time and has affected my life in many ways was my high school. I went to a private catholic high school in a small town. My school was half local students and half international students from various places all around the world. Going to school there helped me to learn a lot about so many different cultures while creating our own community within the school. My school gave all the students a great sense of belonging. There were not many students at my high school, maybe 400 total. This helped everyone get to know eachother better than they can at most high schools. When new students came to the school, acculturation was not very difficult. The school was very accepting of the different views and religions the new students had. The new students were welcomed and we all wanted to learn more about them and where they came from. There was not much ethnocentrism in our school. We all understood that we had grew up with different backgrounds and that one was not necessarily better than the other one. My school had an international week where all the different cultures would teach the rest of the school about their belief systems and they way things were where they were from. The teachers and students try to related what they are talking about when the are referring to religion to the everyday lives of people to make it seem like something they can relate to. The emic the people who are catholic have does not make those who do not have the inside knowledge of the religion feel like they don't belong. One of the biggest things the church promotes is acceptance of all people and being kind to those who are different than
