High School Colorguard Report

Service to others has played a big part of my high school career. I am an instructor for a middle school indoor winterline group and I am specifically in charge of the colorguard members and their work. When I am with the group, I help instruct and show these young students the correct way to do dance, colorguard, and performance. By teaching them, it has lead me to develop my own skills, like communication, leadership, and my own dance and colorguard skills. Also, another reason service is important in my life is because of the relationships I gain. When I first met these young girls, they were shy and had no knowledge about colorguard. When I began to create relationships with each one, they became more loose, open, and themselves. Once I

When I first signed up for color guard, I was just following the lead of my older sister who was also doing it. Thinking this was going to be an easy experience I soon realized that it was nothing how I thought it was going to be. By experiencing the practices and how much time and effort goes into it gained a new respect for my sister for sticking with this because honestly, she was known for being lazy. After getting to feel this amazing feeling after my first performance, color guard also became a passion of mine. Color guard is can be found in most middle schools, high schools and universities.…

When I saw the flyer for color guard my eighth-grade year I was perplexed as it didn't specify what color guard was other than an exciting activity that lets you be apart of marching band. I was skeptical that I would actually like color guard but at the first clinic, I knew I had found a family and exciting activity to pursue. Watching the upperclassmen toss rifles, sabers, and flags with such ease and confidence made me excited to learn and achieve that level of confidence. This year will be my fourth year in marching band, I am still in Color Guard and it is easily one of the activities I’m most passionate about. My love to perform on the marching field takes away the anxiety I usually have, throughout the years my confidence has risen…

I would be a great candidate of the Anne M Dorner middle school chapter of the National Junior Honor Society because I demonstrate scholarship, service, character, citizenship, and leadership in my everyday life. Some of the committee has already noticed my scholarship because they have identified me as having a high academic performance. What the committee might not know is that I have been participating in the STEP program since 7th grade. My service to help the community of Ossining and to show service is by the following, altar service, soccer modified team manager, and I like to lead running and warm-ups for soccer. I also help in my school by helping classmates in what I can, and working in groups and getting the job done.…

I show leadership, service, or scholarship character every day at school and home with all my sisters. But there are many events, where I show service more. For example, I help Ms. Soto with the PTA meetings that the school has, I also take care of her son Aaron whenever she has an important meeting to attend. I'm willing to give up my personal time to take care of Aaron because I feel like if I see anyone needing to help I should to help them in any way I can. It's something inside of me that wakes up and tells me " go help ", " they need your help, go to see what you can do."…

How community service has affected me Community service has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. Volunteering and being asked to perform in musicals and plays at our local theatres has been a fantastic experience for me that I hope I’ll be able to continue my whole life in every city that I land throughout my journey. Through acting and dancing we inspire children and adults alike to live their dream and even soften a few hearts if we can. I’ve watched lives change in just a matter of minutes; even if it’s just one child shouting “Mommy I want to be a performer one day!” at the top of their lungs after watching a performance.…

Having been a boy scout for years, I'm raised to be of service when the moment was convenient. What I admire about community so much is bringing together a group of hard-working, determined helpers who all share the same goal in accomplishing the service. When a group like this comes together, it creates friendships, trust, and positivity; moreover, it's these characteristics that society looks at and says "I need that in my life". My greatest experience of community service is participating in an organization-Monkey Business, which supports children who have family members who are dealing with sort of cancer or life-threatening illness. Partaking in this organization allows me to not only be grateful for the life given to me, but also the opportunity to be a positive role model in these…

According to an article posted by the University of Minnesota, students in service learning benefit academically, professionally, and personally (Benefits of Service-Learning). Some of the ways students benefit themselves are by increasing understandings of topics outside the classroom, gaining hands-on experience, and learning more about social issues and the root causes of those social issues (Benefits of Service-Learning). Students are also able to develop better skills in critical thinking and problem solving. By testing their skills and interests outside of the classroom, students develop new personal relationships and are able to connect with professionals and new networks of people (Benefits of Service-Learning). All of this can satisfy and grow a better urge for volunteering and service…
