The class consisted of putting up plays for the school, and the community. I had always been a person who got easily embarrassed in front of people. So when it came time to do the first play out of the four I would have to do, I was scared and having second thoughts about going out and performing. Although after I finished, I wasn’t as scared to do the other three as I knew I had the support of my friends who cheered me on. This gave me the push I needed my senior year, when I decided to join the cheerleading team, even though I was still a bit nervous. With some time

To be successful, to be intelligent, to be a change. Those are the three main reasons I want to attend college. In this day and age, many jobs require a higher level of education to be able to work. Those jobs that don’t require a degree, depend upon more manual labor, backbreaking work and lower wages. I would rather remain in school longer, expand my knowledge, and get a career on everything I have learned, than go straight to the work field to earn less and do more.…

Throughout the summer I decided that I wanted to spend most of my time volunteering at youth cheerleading camps. Not only did I get the chance to interact with younger girls and set a good role model, but I also got the chance to work with other girls my age who have talent and loves cheerleading just as much as I do! The two camps I was a part of was the Danny Lansanah Football/Cheerleading Camp and the Packers & Broncos Cheerleading Camp. Both camps were located at John Harris High School for ages 5-14 and were free with food provided. During both camps my job was to focus on the basic skills you need to learn to become a cheerleader and also make up a routine to teach the girls.…

When I arrived at my enormous new high school for cheerleading auditions, I got lost. It was June, and since classes had just ended, crowds of kids filled the hallways, and I got bumped around like I did not exist. Thankfully, a cheerleader saw me and figured that I had come there for tryouts since I wore shorts, cheer shoes and a big bow in my hair. She took me to the gym where at least sixty girls had shown up to compete. The first thing I saw was cheerleaders doing high level tumbling with no fear.…

Although others didn 't believe I could get my backhand spring, I was determined because I was the last person on my cheer team who hadn 't already got it, and with the help of my coaches, and believing in myself I finally achieved my goal. I have been an active member in cheerleading since I was in third grade; as I have grown, I have begun to make more in the sport than I ever could have imagined. I believe that anytime someone doesn 't believe in you, it is just a reason to prove them wrong. Not only did I get my backhand spring, but I have also perfected my backhand spring, and recently began trying to get my tuck. It took many tries, although I did get hurt many times while attempting this, I finally did it.…

Five years ago, if somebody told me that I would be a cheerleader, I would have laughed and told them they were crazy. When I was in middle school, I was the definition of a tomboy and believed cheerleading was easy and frivolous. Little did I know that cheerleading would require more mental and physical strength than any other sport I have played and that it would change my life forever. The past four years of my life have truly shaped me into who I am today because of the Saint John Vianney High School cheerleading team. During my high school years I gained more confidence in myself, learned to be more patient, was taught the importance of teamwork, and learned the value of success.…

It was about that time, cheerleading tryouts for the year of 2010-2011. All emotions ran through my mind far as the goal I was trying to reach, but I wasn’t nervous. The prior year, I was already on the squad, therefore I was just striving for a much higher category, the captain’s position. It’s the week of tryouts and you could smell the nerves from the new girls in the air. We all met in the gymnasium to sign in for order, as Coach Randolph struggled to talk over the football team meeting that was actively being discussed.…
