High School Career Analysis: Horn Choir

Decent Essays
During my High-School career I have had the opportunity to lead kids through music but I am most proud of the kids that I have worked with in Horn Choir. I founded Horn Choir at the beginning of 2015 as a fun escape from the stressful school life but it became much more. In horn choir I was able to encourage kids that I have student taught to join my organization. Little did I realize it, two of the younger kids participated in self-harm (cutting themselves). After realizing this shocking news I realized that Horn Choir was not just a fun activity for them, it was something that gave them hope and made them forget their own depression. The more that the younger kids participated in Horn Choir the happier they looked and the more self-confidence

If I have not challenged myself to practice and to confront challenges, I could not have become the principal player in our school’s jazz band and wind ensemble. After several breakthroughs, I decided to share my inspirations to the younger generation. This year, I am one of the coordinators of the Molding Musicians program supported by the Cypress Boys and Girls Club, teaching the fifth and sixth graders how to play an instrument. I appreciate the fact that my achievements did not come from an easy work, but rather a persistent standing against…

Souza, I developed a role as music maker or musician with my instrument being my voice. Moreover, I was not required to sing, but it was my desire to sing that led me to be a music maker. Choir is such an incredible experience when you are a child or teen. This was a cultural ‘social outlet’ for me as well. The choir director made everything interesting and very participatory.…

As upperclassmen of the band, I have had to act as a leader and a model for the new members. In band, we have created a family, and in this family, the “older siblings,” more experienced members, help and instruct the “younger siblings,” newer members. As a member of the high school Life Teen program, I volunteer as a teen leader of the Edge Program. I have learned how to help and be a role model through both of these programs. These activities require members to not only have the qualities of a reputable leader, but qualities of a skillful instructor.…

In sixth grade I joined the chamber orchestra at my school. We met friday mornings before school, and played harder literature than the regular orchestra. This undoubtedly helped me become a better violinist almost instantaneously; it was one of the first times I was surrounded by players that were miles ahead of me. I loved it but I noticed that as I got older, in seventh and then eighth grade, I was back on top and the music wasn’t nearly as challenging.…

Between babysitting and my job at Toys R Us, I constantly find myself around children. As I’ve been told by teachers and band directors, I know I must act as an example so these kids strive for greatness. Rather than give into my inner demons and walk away from such opportunity, I give advice and direction to curious children who approach me. It’s a surreal moment when I tell children that although school isn’t the most pleasant or easy, it’s definitely worth all the stress and pain to be able to look back at end the school year and appreciate all of one’s accomplishments. I certainly remember this when I’m in marching band and find myself exhausted and struggling to stay motivated throughout the endless rehearsals.…
