High School Baseball Descriptive Essay

It’s that time of year, the leaves are starting to turn and the weather is still scorching hot outside. Fall has finally arrived and I’m back at school for another semester. Fall baseball has just begun and it’s time for the first scrimmage. I walk out of the locker room and put my hands over my laces, and step out on the concrete and hear that first crack of the spike hitting the ground. I head to the best spot on the field the third base dugout. The field looks great the grass is cut with a diagonal line pattern going left to right, the dirt is a brownish red color because it just got watered down and the rec has never looked so big behind the right field fence. When the first gust of wind hits you get a mixture of smells from the grass, to the burgers and dogs even the great smell of propane when you first light the grill. I stand in the dugout with my good friends Josh Handzeik and Talon Parke. As we stand there we talk about how we can’t believe this is already our third year at this school. The ups and downs we share we laugh and smile, telling stories from previous years past. All of the sudden are face gets serious because the game is about to begin and the journey to Carry, North Carolina has started. …show more content…
To my left there are a group of 15 guys standing in the corner next to the trash can and drinking fountain. I look at their facial expression and you see the disappointment on their faces as they know they aren’t going to get to play in the game today. They stand there talking amongst each other saying that the coaches are wrong for not playing them, that they are better suited for the lineup, because they believe that their skill level is better than the guy ahead of them. I feel each and everyone one of their emotions because I too was at that point when I first arrived

Sixty miles per hour is the speed at which the average softball player throws the ball; so I guess you could say I was in the wrong place at the wrong time, but I believe I was exactly where I was supposed to be. You know how some people say there was a certain moment that changed their life completely? Well, this was that moment for me, and it all was caused by a miscommunication. Miscommunications happen all of the time, but with a softball that isn't actually soft, and someone standing only 30 feet away from you; well you can already see the implications. At the time, I didn't see what was going to unfold, but I had a bad feeling about what was to come.…

I live day to day, going through the works: wake up at the ungodly hour of six A.M., make it through my classes, two hours of volleyball, finally go home, repeat. But, in between all of the rushing, the yelling, the stress of high school, is when I get to relax. It’s when I get to forget about school, or as I call it “college auditions” and when I can just have a nice time without having to weigh the pros and cons of every thing I do. Every day, after the last bell rings, I navigate through the throngs of intimidating upperclassmen. It’s like The Hunger Games, stay calm, keep your head down, and try not to piss anyone off.…

Despite being an incredibly profitable $10 billion dollar enterprise, MLB baseball certainly has its share of issues. And no one associated with the game on that level will tell you any different. There is one dispute, however, that it doesn’t have as its annual spring training comes to a close – at the core of the game – it’s all about hope. Like spring itself; the advent of the baseball season, akin to the Lenten season it always coincides with, symbolizes a much needed renewal. Baseball has this indistinguishable way of juxtaposing longtime memories and impending possibility, while complementing them with the abstract present.…

For the first time in our lives, we decided to go in opposite directions. As my first solo practice in the last eleven years struck, I was flabbergasted. The day finally hit. I tie up my washed, yet stained, Nike cleats and head for the dugout exit, grabbing my once adored Demarini bat as I pass the battered, rugged, fence. The months without my beloved teammate next to me have been eerie and agonizing.…

Baseball has been my anchor, my home, my sanctuary. It’s meant pre-season games in the fall, daily workouts in the winter, having sweat drip down my nose as I bust out that final weighted sprint or pullup; it’s having friends to lean on, to share with, to tease; it’s buying oversized seven-foot tall teddy bears for each other on birthdays.
