Billie Jean King once said “Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose- it teaches you about life”. Being part of a sports team, we experience competitiveness, commitment, and perseverance; being involved in something that requires us to compete in these situations teaches us success, dedication, leadership, failure, and hard work. The more we grow as a person, the more we realize that not only can those qualities be applied to sports, but they can be utilized in life scenarios. Female high school athletes are three times more likely to graduate than non-athletes. With that being said, sports can teach a variety of success. Whether it is football, tennis, baseball, or soccer, we have to practice every day to become a strong competitor. In other words, if we do not put the hard work in we will not naturally become a tremendous player. Same things apply in life; we do not get things handed to us so we have to work hard to get the result we have been wanting. Hard work teaches us that we can extend our potential by just outworking our opponents. Every day is a day to get better and that starts with hard work. Countless hours turn into months and when we take a step back to look at our accomplishments, we will have a grin on our face. All our hard work finally paid off. We will realize, if we work hard enough nothing is impossible. In conclusion, being on a sports team, we experience, competitiveness, perseverance, and commitment. With that being said, being involved in those types of situations teaches us success, dedication, leadership, failure, and hard work.
