For a very long time, I thought I wanted to be a lawyer. Both of my parents are nurses so I wanted to feel like I was creating my own path and not just following in someone else's footsteps. Up until my senior year of high school, I hardly knew anything about nursing. For my senior project, I was required to donate my time to the community. I could not find any volunteer work in the field of law so I chose to donate my time at the convalescent hospital my stepfather worked in. I shadowed nurses and interacted with a variety of patients. I was incredibly amazed at how good the nurses were. I was amazed at not only the medical aspects of their jobs but also at how natural and kind they were when caring for their patients. It took a while for me to register in my head that this is what my parents did every single day. The people I am admiring right now are no different than my parents. …show more content…
I began volunteering at a rehabilitation center for people with mental and physical disabilities. I was assigned to the children & teens department. I learned how to communicate with nonverbal children and discovered different techniques that allowed me to be the arms and legs for children who are paralyzed from the neck down.

My interaction with the children at the center further solidified my desire to take care of others and opened up a new interest for me: pediatrics. In 2013, I began volunteering at UCSF Children's Hospital every Sunday. I am mostly assigned to the playroom where I supervise a safe play area for patients and provide relief for parents who need a break. I am also responsible for bedside visits when a patient is too sick or weak to come into the playroom. I have been coming here every week for almost three years and plan to do so until my schedule no longer permits me

Since my second semester at UT, I have devoted 15 hours a week to volunteering as a Young Life leader. Every week I help run a club meeting for dozens of high school kids, manage a planning meeting with my teammates, and lead a small group for sophomore girls. I spend hours at St. Stephen’s Episcopal School watching games and performances, and simply getting to know these young adults. Through investing this time to build relationships as a mentor and role model, I strove to show these girls that they are significant, noticed and valued. Volunteering as a Young Life leader has taught me invaluable lessons in building relationships, caring for others, and working with a team that will help me to be a more supportive and productive physician…

350 word limits Essay Question - Other than your Eagle Scout leadership service project, what service have you provided to your community during your high school years? During my high school years, I have primarily provided service through my participation in the Christiana Care VolunTeen program and through the various clubs that I lead. The Christiana Care VolunTeen program allows young adults to help serve at the hospital in various areas, often exposing teenagers to how a hospital operates. Specifically, I worked in the Outpatient Pharmacy, SurgiCenter, and Pathology/Histology Lab, assisting patients and doctors with their various needs and tasks.…

For my sixty hours of volunteer work I decided to volunteer at a Child Life Center which was in a poverty stricken area in Norfolk, Va. At the child life center my job as a volunteer was to assist the children with their homework, help the staff monitor the children on local field trips, as well as serve as a positive role model for the children. The experience I had at Park Place Child Life Center was one I will honestly never forget. Although I didn’t get any actual counseling experience, I was able to learn the ways that the non-profit organization received their funding, I was able to gain experience in working with the youth, and I was also able to make a positive impact on the lives of children who were considered “at-risk youth”. To go there every day and be able to see the change the children had in their behaviors and how much just some attention and affection from adults impacted their behaviors was honestly amazing.…

Freshman year I started volunteering at Suncoast hospice; mainly because of the fact that I needed to build up my pre-med resume with healthcare experience but also because it was the only local health care related volunteer activity and transportation was an issue. Little did I know that taking on a challenge that would have such an impacting effect on my character and how I interpret the world. Through various activities ranging from baking cookies, making hand sewn comfort bears, to delivering groceries, and folding over 500 “thinking about you cards”; I have come to the realization that the ripple effect does not have any limitations, no matter how big or small one’s actions. Completing over 100 hours with hospice is an accomplishment…

My healthcare volunteering experience began in high school when I started volunteering at Baylor Hospital in Grapevine, Texas. If the university community can be defined as student alumni, current students, current staff, professors, and anybody else who involves themselves with the university regularly, then I would say that my earning of my Bachelor of Science in Nursing would do little to affect any one person directly. However, my earning a degree from the exceptional teachings of my professors, the encouragement from my peers, and the guidance I needed from my counselors, then my earning a degree and launching my career could very well be seen as an inspiration to them. Years of dedication and hard work will have earned me a slot as one of Alaska's fine nurses; the greatest accomplishment of my young adult life. Not only will I have completed a distinguished college…

Being a clinician is a way of life: a life that puts the needs of others before yourself; a dynamic life; a life which brings an individual face to face with the realities of this world, bringing them to the forefront of understanding and using that to guide their judgements. This is the sort of life I want to lead. Being able to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired and then seeing its effect, especially with regards to the wellbeing of others, is something that I find joy in. I began volunteering at my high school’s science club for year seven’s in which I was able to share and help the communication of science through a combination of discussions and lab work. Following this was almost a year volunteering at Trafford General Hospital, providing a trolley service.…

I feel that I can make a difference in each patient’s life that I encounter, it might be as small as getting a wheelchair if they seem flaccid or weak, a blanket if they are cold, something to drink or just talking to a patient to get their mind off pre-surgery.
