From the cereal I eat every morning, to the gifts I open on Christmas; they all come in packages. Ever since I was young, I have been fascinated by the thought and design that is put into packages. Typically, when people think of packaging, they think of boxes and pallets. Little do they know, packaging is an extremely broad area of study and encompasses infinite career opportunities. Its flexibility and focus on business, science, and engineering is what led me to this ideal major. Going into my senior year of high school, I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to study after graduating. I have always been attracted to math and science, but I knew that I wanted my future studies to include some business. After doing some research in my senior seminar class, I came across Packaging Science at Michigan State University. Some might say, “It was love at first sight.” This major was everything I was looking for. …show more content…
While at Amway, I was exposed to the daily tasks and interactions of packaging engineers. What I admired most about their job was their constant change of working environments. From the production line, to the testing lab and office setting, they were always on the move. Also, the synergy between product teams and departments was astounding. Furthermore, the up-beat, collaborative energy found in the School of Packaging was also shining bright in the Amway packaging team. Of the three packaging engineers I observed, two were graduates of MSU. These individuals supplied me with unparalleled information regarding academic courses, internship opportunities, and campus life. The next day at school, I scheduled a visit to MSU as well as the School of Packaging and have been in love ever

A messy bedroom, Arctic Monkeys as background music, and an adolescent begrudgingly writing an essay for their twelfth grade English class is the current scene. This is the perspective of a senior; an absolutely glamorous time in life. It's an alarming thought that my high school career has brought me to this point as I search my mind for the correct words to advise you and my fingers tap away at my small keyboard. I'm supposed to give advice and guidance to the future graduates of our beloved Quincy High School, but there's little I can give that can be completely relatable to all. For example, I was raised by a single father, am a part-time cashier, and can barely figure out how the Pythagorean theorem will actually affect my adult life.…

During my employment at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates in Boston I was able to work with a graduate of MCPHS, Kaiming (Kyle) Chiang, MPAS, PA-C. His knowledge and comprehension of his role as well as his eagerness to always do more inspired me. Kyle’s professionalism and confidence led him to be a favorite among several patients; he was able to diagnose with confidence; and was able to communicate with the patients in a way that they would be able to understand. Kyle was always an advocate for MCPHS and as I continued to work with him I was able to see, not only his passion, but the knowledge he gleaned from his time at MCPHS. I knew that MCPHS was not only a school that prepared their students well for the workplace, but also teaches them in a manner where patient education and…

As a child of immigrant parents, whom never passed secondary education, I had been told several times by my mother, “I came here so you can have the opportunities I never had.” I never took her words in for consideration. Being callow was part of the predicament, and my early teenage mindset kept me in captivity. Unlike my mother, I’ve been oblivious to the fact that as a citizen, I’m capable of achieving anything. During my last two years of high school, I realized that she was utterly right.…

The amount of love that you put into your efforts is just as important, if not more, than the amount of effort also put forth. My often unexplainable love affair for medicine started at a young age when I aspired to find the cures for the most ravaging diseases that plagued the earth. Rooted in a foundation of inquisitiveness, I desired nothing more than to extend nurturing, healing and joy to others. My life had soon brought me closer to medicine in ways that I could have never fathomed. I was a young teenager when I discovered my mother slumped over on the floor of her bedroom; beside her was a note to document her final manifesto accompanied by an empty bottle of prescription medication.…

The human body is somewhat of an enigma to me. Learning more about its complexity has allowed me to establish why current advances have improved sanitation, fitness and longevity from a contrasting world that existed centuries ago. In turn, and after much thought, I have yet to find a more fulfilling vocation than to help the future wellbeing of humanity through an enriched understanding of the human body. Although this proved emotional, it was the hope provided by the doctor that inspired me the most.…
