Salisbury High School Observation Essay

Salisbury High School is a small school with a welcoming environment. Because of its location, surrounded by Allentown School District on all sides, I would expect it to have a more urban feeling, but it feels much more like a suburban school. The atmosphere feels laid back with definite boundaries. In my weeks there, I have yet to witness an act of disrespect or insubordination. The school is clean, bright, well-kept and is rife with school spirit. The faculty, staff, and administrators are friendly, and school resource officer is clearly in place if a need would arise. Mrs. Heather Morningstar seems to be well-respected by both the staff and students. Assistant Principal Brian Muschlitz is a presence in the hallways, greeting students by name. The school is small enough that everyone seems to know each other creating a very strong community feeling. Salisbury High School seems to be a …show more content…
The student population is about 75 percent Caucasian, with the 11 percent Hispanic student population being a very distant second. Boys outnumber girls at the school, and this has been surprisingly evident in all the classes that I am in at Salisbury High School. Socioeconomically, about 23 percent of students are enrolled in the free or reduced lunch program, with 82 percent of those student qualifying for free lunches. The school district provides laptops to all the high school students, so all students have technology to utilize for their learning. The students and teachers readily use this technology with a majority of the assignments integrating technology. Salisbury School District clearly understands the necessity of technology access and utilization as an integral aspect of educating children. This allows for easy communication and content sharing amongst students and

I decided to do a little research on Burgess Elementary. It was named after superintendent, Joseph Burgess, in 1963, because he was a hardworking man, and was rewarded for it. Why I chose Burgess elementary was because it was a piece of my childhood and during pre-school, which was a time rare time of me being stress free, not worrying about adult responsibilities, just to learn, and have fun. I was able to see the contrast to how I perceived the building to what the name of the place stood for, by how impactful it was towards me and how Joseph Burgess impacted the building.…

To start off, the major physical feature of the school is not very good because it is overcrowded. Two years ago the county redistricted, and now there are about three times as many kids here as there were in sixth grade. So now, when you are in the hallways, you are shoulder to shoulder with the person standing next to you. The cafeteria is really loud and you are sitting shoulder to shoulder with the kid sitting…

Fieldwork 1B: Observation For this second fieldwork assignment I am required to observe the residents in the common area of Spring Meadows of Lansdale. In addition, the observations of the residents were of different age groups, physical challenges, and genders. Many of the residents are elderly with multiple health complications and the flows of various forms of medicines. As I complete the assignment on the observation, I find myself surprised at how quickly the hour went playing the Jewish game, dreidel. Dreidel was an easy way to the scope out social participation behaviors and mannerisms.…

Middle Grades are probably the most difficult grades to get through for everyone. During this time of physical, social, emotional, intellectual, and moral development for these students learning about the history of Georgia is literally the last thing they think about, if they even really think about it at all. These students are some of the most difficult students to keep their attention focused on the subject matter at hand, unless of course we are discussing them, then and only then will the teacher get their full attention. During the observation assignment I noticed a few of the developmental theories that correlated with the five developmental stages of middle school students: Bronfenbrenner, Erikson, and Hall.…

My high school experience has allowed me to be a part of the band, choir, theatre, and Spanish programs. These experiences have all shown me unique aspects of my life and the lives of those around me. Because I was homeschooled until ninth grade, I never got a real chance to be a part of the community like I did when I became a freshman. Throughout my high school career, I have learned many things like music, Spanish, and how to treat other people. At Vicksburg High School, all three of these things go hand in hand.…

Also I did not view any difficulties within the classrooms. If this was confusion they students would ask and it would be answered. I found that as long as students behaved, the day went well and as planned and both student and teacher were content. The teachers I observed provided a welcoming, safe, and playful environment. All of the teachers except one had posters, pictures, drawings... etc.…

I am not the same person I was in the beginning of this year, and I am definitely not the same person I was two years ago. When the first day of school arrived,I thought of all the negatives, “I’m not going to make any friends... The eighth graders are going to be so scary... etc,” but now I’m not scared. The Hillsborough Middle School has became a home to me. I have made new friends, and lost some old friends.…

The good thing about this schools that I like is will motivate the students and tell them what exactly what to do also the teacher would help and see what every student is doing but the only thing is that the teacher do not gives any ideas to students when a students are not sure about an answer for a question. Also the teacher does not have the control of the classroom when students get noisy or get up from their desk. Some students are noisy and annoying and it’s very hard for a person to deal with so many students at the same time when they are noisy. I remember back in the days in high school some of the student were noisy and annoying or just throwing papers and it was hard for a teacher to take the control of the class. She just called the securities from the school to take them out the class.…

Eating a meal and attending a class are equally important. One cannot be successful with just doing only one of these two actions. Eating give you energy for class, while attending class will give you knowledge to support yourself in the future. Thus, I decide to pick the Social Science and Humanities Building, or commonly known as SOCSCI by students, and the Tercero Dining Commons, or DC, to compare. It is true that SOCSCI and the Tercero DC are convenient locations, but there is more to these two places when I force myself to sit down and notice the details within both areas.…

Meredith also incorporated technology very frequently in her lessons. She had students make mind maps on chrome books as well as type up story they wrote. When she would have one small group and the rest of the class would be working on other work she had spelling activities to be done on different learning apps on an iPad. I think this helps with keeping the children attentive in the classroom. This school is very technology savvy in their classrooms.…

For years, technology has molded our thinking, actions, and lives. Technology is a tool that never stops advancing as it grows with us. Many people use technology and its tools to help educate themselves and others in the workplace, home, and other various environments. So quite naturally, when school board officials and educators proposed that this technology should be incorporated into the school system many were eager to start the process. However, technology should not be integrated into the schools system because it creates problems such as academic dishonesty, possible layoffs, and technological malfunctions.…
