INTRODUCTION
High-rise, high-density living has been embraced as a positive accommodation solution for many millions of people living in Singapore. This assignment outlines a defective of high-rese building in Singapore.
Singapore, whose land area is around 660 km2, it is one of the most high-densely populated city. In the 2001 review of the Concept Plan, the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore (URA) has estimated that Singapore would have a projected population of 5.5 million by 2040.
This translates into 800,000 more homes or 6,400 ha of land …show more content…
In order to ease population pressure, the Singapore government to build Marina Bay Sands in the one hand to increase the employment rate. On the other hand to increase Singapore economy stimulate growth when everyone comes Singapore to travel.
ANALYSIS AND RESULTS
One common feature of high-rise building is having a steel framework to support other structures. The structure of MBS’s walls are not load-bearing and consist of large areas of windows made possible by the concept of steel frame and curtain walls.
Steel studs attract moisture, especially in Singapore with humid climate. The moisture can into the steel frame if we assume steel are not insulated, and then dewater on wallboard directly. The interior walls will reach a cold spots of moisture behind the wall. It is very expensive to maintain.
Steel conducts heat 300 to 400 times faster than wood, that’s occurs the thermal bridging, in which heat takes the most conductive way. Nevertheless the most conductive way in a steel frame is by …show more content…
Although steel is not a comburent, the strength of steel will decrease at high temperatures making them impressionable to buckling. Furthermore, steel is a good heat conductor, ignites materials in contact and causes fire extend to everywhere. In 911, the root cause of the Pentagon collapse is steel structure due to overheating, leading steel bending and then broke eventually.
Marina Bay Sands use custom double-glazed unitized curtain wall. One of the major disadvantages of curtain walls is the need a periodic maintenance. For the sake of keeping out moisture and wind, a sealant must be applied to all the round. Another problem of curtain walls is the cost and time required to install them. Curtain walls require a lot of time to install, and their performance depends on the quality of the installation.
To take care during erection of the curtain wall is the most meticulous process. It is a very careless erection technique because it often broken. Curtain wall modules are always huge and heavy; it requires careful planning and implementation of shielded crating, handling, transportation and
