Have you ever wondered why some movies often differ from the books that they are based on while others do not? The movie based on Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” and Katherine Anne Porter’s “The Jilting of Granny Weatherall” tended to stray from their original stories, the movie made from Nathaniel Hawthorne’s “Rappaccini’s Daughter” tended to stay true to the book. It is easy to see why the components of a book often change in the production of the movie when the publication of the books and their respective movies are often separated by decades. While producers try to stick as close to the book as possible, sometimes in order to develop a more captivating story they must change the characters, setting, plot to better suit…

Similarly, the film produced in Hollywood in 1932 was based on the same plot. However, the two are vastly different and I dare to say that the movie does not hold true the the integrity of Connell’s original piece. The integrity of the story is affected by the many differences and similarities in the areas of initiating event, characterization, and plot between the story and movie The Most Dangerous Game. In the initiating event of both the film and short story the setting is on an island in the tropics.…

Rather, it cuts between different scenes and connects the viewer with ideas of the past and present. For example, the movie begins with Solomon Northup seen cutting sugar cane stalks on a plantation somewhere. It then transitions to him playing the violin. This slight variation from how the screenplay was written, allows for the movie to open with a much more powerful and provocative point.…

Slow and steady wins the race. The speed of events in Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's The Hound of the Baskervilles is more delightful compared to David Attwood's movie adaptation precisely because it follows the motto. Though the focal point of each version doesn’t relate to the saying, it’s still an important factor toward the story’s gratification. And while each source of entertainment has their distinctions, their moods are similar. Differences in the pacing and the focus of each story cause the novel of The Hound of the Baskervilles to be more enjoyable than its film adaptation while both maintain an ominous mood.…
