The National Food Guide recommends a low-fat diet, to reduce risks of diabetes, and heart disease. “The effects of a High Carb Diet” by Milton Kazmeyer states that the benefits of a high carb diet are that it is a “Quick energy source, boosts blood sugar levels, and if most of the carbs come from vegetables and fruits, the additional vitamins and fiber can help maintain the body and even spur weight loss.” Another huge benefit of high carbohydrate diets is that you can eat a lot more food than the low carbohydrate diet. All these benefits of high carbohydrate diets are the reasons why the National Food Guide recommends a high carb diet. But just because the National Food Guide recommends it, does not mean there is not some drawbacks. A major drawback of higher carb diets, is the excess amount of sugar intake. While yes, sugar is fine in moderation, the high carb diet increases your sugar intake by about 40%. As the article “The Disadvantages of Carbohydrates” by Erin Coleman states “A sugar addiction can lead to nutrient deficiencies, overweight and obesity”. Many people take eating high carb as eating a lot of starchy carbs such as bread, pasta, and low fat dairy products. When because these companies try to lower the fat content, they end up adding more sugar. Which is where the high sugar intake comes from. Another drawback is
