Setting a standard and at the beginning of the season gives a player something to shoot for and motivate them to work for throughout the season. If adversity is at a max thinking back to what their standard was for the end of the season can help push through it. A player having the right coach can make or break a player. A coach has to know whether a player learns best from being yelled at or just talked to. Once a coach figures that out it will get the most out a player leading to success.
