When I was a little girl, reading held my attention more than anything else. Although it was something that I truly took pleasure in, the passion that I had for reading simply withered away. Once I became older, and technology became more advanced and life became more hectic, I put those books down. I guess the real question here is, what is happening to reading? Terry Teachout said it best, “The independent movie will replace the novel as the principal vehicle for serious storytelling in the 21st century.” It is clear to see that motion pictures are becoming a dominance in today’s everyday lifestyle. …show more content…
Technology in general. Cell phones, television, computers, etc. all play a major role in it. Hard-copy books are rarely being purchased anymore because of the technology. Teachout predicted, in the 90s, that films would be marketed like books. He was right. Articles and novels can easily be downloaded onto a cell phone, computer, or tablet; but in most cases are not. You would think that books would be more relevant because of the advanced systems that are being put in place today. Not in this case. People in the 21st century are not reading nearly as much as they did. What is happening to reading? Well, in my opinion, pure laziness.
