In one study, researchers tracked 1,357 children on the drug Strattera for 6 to 18 weeks. They reported five cases of suicidal thinking, including one suicide attempt, compared with zero cases among the 851 patients taking a placebo (ADHD drug danger, 2006). They may uncommonly cause negative changes in mood or behavior, including suicidal thoughts or actions (ADHD Medications, 2015). Atomoxetine is a drug that is used to treat children who live with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, which is more commonly known as ADHD. This medication has been linked to such side effects as suicidal thoughts (Steve Williamson, 2015). In 2008, statistics showed that suicide was the third leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24, and the sixth leading cause of death among 5 to 14 year olds (Rosalyn, E., & Carson-Dewitt, B., 2015). Teens are especially vulnerable because their emotional state is already under a lot of stress and with a medication that alters the way they think it can compel them to have even more suicidal thoughts. There are millions of people who suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) everyday and the only relief is to take prescription drugs that all have different side affects. When the patient stops taking the prescription drugs then the symptoms come back. These drugs can be highly addictive and can lead to needing to take higher doses or needing to take different medication to acchieve the same feeling that they did in the beginning because their body eventually gets used to the drug and the drug is no longer as
