Facts that were hidden from me growing up reading those textbooks in school. Hidden Colors made me want to learn more about Africa. Africa is so misconstrued in the media. Africa is shown in the media to be war torn, violent and full of jungles. The video taught me that Africa was home to six countries with the lowest crime rates, and that Europe and Asia have more jungle than Africa. This shows how the media affects my perception of the world. I have to learn everything I see on tv is not real and that I always can open up a book or do my own research to know what is actually true about a place around me. I was so surprised about Santa Claus the caucasian, white bearded man I grew up loving and so excited for every christmas was so very misrepresented. Santa Claus also known as “Saint Nicholas” was actually based on a European African American saint! There is so many things that my African American ancestors are actually responsible for and they do not get the credit. Everyone wants to claim that they are so “Woke”, meaning they know so much about racism. However they fail to even know these amazing facts about our history. History class kindergarten through twelfth grade skips over so much of the human race 's historical puzzle. However I never thought to go back in fill in those missing puzzle pieces. This movie means so much to me now and completely changes my outlook on life. This movie made me appreciate my choice of coming to an HBCU where I can have the opportunity to learn more about myself. After watching this movie I feel as though I can talk for hours about my history. The African American race is more strong and powerful then one may think.
