Hickory Dock Response

Decent Essays
For this assignment I decided to use the nursery rhyme Hickory Dickory Dock. In this nursery rhyme I would use the claves. This is to show that the clock is “ticking”. For line two I would use the sand blocks to represent the mice running up the clock. In line three I would use the cymbals to make the sound of the clock striking one. Then, like I did in line two, I would us the sand blocks to show the mice running down the clock. Finally, for line five I would rhythm sticks to make the sound of the clock “ticking” kind of like the claves but using a different instrument.

By allowing the young boy to express his stream of conscious directly to those listening to the poem, we get an intimate glimpse at his transition from innocence. The poem begins with the boy recalling his time spent picking wild blackberries. He enjoys this act, and how it leaves his hands stained “like a printers/Or a thief’s before a police blotter”.…

Diction: The “Jim Crow Club” phrase is used to show that certain clubs are known for having separate but equal ideals. The word “barring” and “grievous” show the bad mistake these less famous clubs made when they chose to exclude people of their own race and only allowing white people to enter. Imagery: The use of the words “large, dark, masculine lady, whose feet pounded the floor while her fingers pounded the keyboard.” This appeals to your sense of sight and sound.…

Old Hickory, the seventh president of the United States, prided himself greatly in his endeavors to help common men within his country. During his era he eradicated the 2nd national bank because his country wanted it, wrote a bill to displace Indians and vetoed an alarmingly high amount of bills. In all his flaws he was well liked by the people and was known as a man of the people. The stage was dimly light with spotlight shinning the battle, and Tchaikovsky’s suspenseful music was clashing throughout the hall adding the firewood to the heated scene. There was a pack of gigantic mice surrounding the mouse king and the nutcracker prince in circle, who persistently and continuously stepped forward with their feet, leaned their upper torso inward and an in reflective swing pushed on their legs to reposition themselves. All the mice doing this in unison made it seem that even if the prince managed to defeat the king, he would still be eliminated by the storming pack of mice army. The mouse king appeared much threatening as well – he was much larger than the other mice and on his head was bunches of mouse heads clumped together like a grape. In addition to this obscure appearance, it would rhythmically swing toward and back with legs stepping forward and back, with synchronized powerful swing of an arm yielding the sword it grasped firmly on its hand.…
