Barbara Miedema November 5, 2016 Song Essay When people get into their cars one of the first things they do is reach for the radio. What if that radio wasn’t there? What would they do? People don’t realize but they use the radio to escape having to sit in silence with nothing but their own thoughts.…
Top Ten Christian band Twenty One Pilots declared its musical manifesto three years ago in the song “Car Radio,” “I will try with every rhyme to come across like I am dying to let you know you need to try to think.” Twenty One Pilots’ hit “Stressed Out” is currently played on secular radio stations across the country and in Europe, and the duo is selling out concerts at every venue. Even though they are open about their faith, the band continues to sneak like a hacker through the world’s default gospel-rejection mechanism. While the dialectic voice confuses secular reporters, the message of salvation carries through to their listeners. “When I first listened to their music I was like, I’m not alone.…
"We all have our masks that we wear. " This was stated by, the main singer of the band Twenty One Pilots, Tyler Joseph. It is amazing how many masks people wear to hide their true self. This is true for everyone. The album "Vessel" from the artist Twenty One Pilots contains twelve songs that touch mainly on this issue but many more as well.…
There's no denying that John Legend is one of the strongest standing balladeers left that made modern mainstream music still susceptible to pure emotions of love and feelings. It is with John Legend that we heard songs reminiscent of the effect that Boyz II Men and Babyface showered us during the bountiful industry of the 1990s---saccharine-rich tracks that's certainly difficult to go unnoticed. In just a couple of years, John Legend managed to establish his own placement as a respected and relative pop icon, and with the latest album that he released, he further cemented his fame to stability. John Legend's innate capability to connect with his audience had done him so well during the course of his career, and putting love as a strong emotional push helped him to keep his momentum all-flowing.…
Casablanca, a romantic drama directed by Michael Curtiz, is an extraordinary example of classic Hollywood cinema. The perfection of its continuity editing allows shots to flow seamlessly into one another with no call for attention. They are filled with small details that at first seem irrelevant in the situation, but later on reveal their narrative significance. One of those elements is the song "As time goes by", that becomes a main theme of Rick, a man who sticks his neck out for nobody, and Ilsa, who let go of her true love to be by the side of a man who fights for freedom. "…
Envision walking through a forest of darkness, not knowing where you want to go or what you’re going to do next. The only thing you do know is that you want to do something and you want to influence something. Finally, you see an opportunity that could change everything. You don't know how all of this will affect you, but you go ahead anyways. This is how I was before joining Creek Wood’s Band.…
I’ve never told a lie, and that makes me a liar. Those lyrics from All Time Low’s song ‘Jasey Rae’ are something I can deeply relate to, which is often the case with most of the music I listen to. When I first heard that phrase blasting through my earbuds, I honestly didn’t know what to think at first. I couldn’t explain that feeling that had built up so suddenly inside of me, why I had felt like I had just been hit by a ton of bricks.…
Music has the power to transporting us back to a particular experience, memory, or era without that being its intended purpose. The documentary, Alive Inside, provided a look into how the brain’s reaction to music for nursing home residents with dementia provided an alternative therapy by allowing them to temporarily regain the memories and movement of their younger years. At the suggestion of Dan Cohen, social worker, nursing home volunteer and non-profit organizer of Music & Memory, the film’s director followed him for a day and what he discovered that day of the extent of influence that music had on these individuals, he decided to continue to follow Cohen for three years to document the phenomenal effects that this type of therapy. Through…
Houston, Texas; surrounded by sweaty strangers, stomach stuffed with roast beef sandwich, and I listened to the band Waters for the first time. April, resembling preceding months, had been miserable. But as I stood there listening to the song "Mom & Dads", the concert grew beyond just a fun time; it became an escape from the past year. Purchasing the band's CD became my heart's only desire and money was no object; I'd listen to that one song over and over as it became the soundtrack to regaining control of my life.…
“2017 Motion “All or Nothing” July 27,2017, was a Thursday. The student ministry at my church traveled to Birmingham Alabama for the annual Student Motion conference. It was morning with a cool breeze when we all hopped on the bus. I sat on the bus with my friends; Hailey, and my other friends; Abby, Genevieve, Peyton, and Kaitlin sitting right in front of me. When we arrived we immediately were taken to our hotel and there, I found my room leader, Amy.…

A life of a lot of good moments and one sad moment is what my life has been made up of so far. In my soundtrack there will be mostly good but of course there will be a sad part. The Crow & The Butterfly A musician’s inspiration for a song can come from anywhere, even their own subconscious, and that proves true in the case of my favorite song “The Crow & The Butterfly” by Shinedown. The singer of the band and the writer of the song, Brent Smith, has said his inspiration came from a dream he had about a mother dealing with the death of a child. The song to me represents loss in any sense that is relevant to the listener. The emotion you feel while listening to the lyrics can speak to anyone in different aspects of their life.…
The Black Veil Heros “Every sixty seconds you spend upset is a minute of happiness you’ll never get back.” This was once said by Andy Biersack, lead singer of Black Veil Brides. Many people have their own favourite, a place, a movie, or even a colour. They like those things for many different reasons, its’ sentimental value or a simple drawing or attractions to it. My favourite thing is a band, Black Veil Brides because of their musical meaning, musical ability, and how much they care about their fans.…
Music therapy does an unexpectedly great job at helping them deal with these feelings. The use of songs with lyrics about people, places, and experiences is crucial in music therapy for cancer patients because “human contact is one of the best methods for diminishing physical and emotional suffering” (Bailey 1). Through songs, they can communicate their problems, their past or present unsatisfied needs, their despair, and their fear of dying. There are three steps that music therapists usually follow treating cancer patients. First, the music therapist establishes a trusting relationship with them.…
