I worked for a county mental health department for four years, during my time there they had two emergency evacuations. The first was a fire evacuation and the second was a gas leak. The safety of staff and clients was the priority in both of these evacuations. This agency’s policy and procedure for emergency evacuation were: if the alarm sounded, you stopped your activities and exited the building as quickly as possible. This sort of situation was considered time sensitive, and therefore they did not enforce the securing of records.
