Hi Eunice, I think you made a valid point on your post regarding Archie’s likely to have a negative perception about the Evans’. I think part of the problem is that Archie see the world in a different lens as opposed to most folks. He grew up in time that a lot of things that are acceptable now, and they weren’t acceptable then. No wonder he belittle anyone that is not white. “See What I Mean” In the video “See What I Mean” I noted numerous differences between the hearing and deaf communities. During the video in a class of hearing students and teacher, a student arrived late to class and when he arrived he spoke nothing, made no eye contact, did not disrupt the class, and the teacher did not acknowledge his tardiness. In a deaf class, the student arrived late and the teacher stopped class to ask why he was late, made eye contact with each other, and the student explained himself and told the class valuable information about traffic delaying him from arriving to class. In another scenario two hearing friends when departing, said their goodbyes quick.…

Culture is the manner in which society interacts. Every society does specific things that might seem strange to other societies. As individuals of a society we don’t analyze the “normal” tasks of our daily routines. Everyone believes their culture has the best values and norms. As stated in chapter three of You May Ask Yourself, ethnocentrism occurs when individuals view all other cultures from the perspective of their own.…

    Summary Of Eliade

    • 2 Pages

With Eliade, I felt his purpose of the reading was to convey that myths were models of behavior that ensured that the religious man remained in touch with the sacred reality. He quotes, "What we find as soon as we place ourselves in perspective of religious man of the ordeal societies is that the world exists because it was created by the gods, and that the existence of the world itself 'means' something, 'want to say' something and the world is neither mute nor opaque, that it is not an inert thing without purpose of significance." (165) What I got out of this was that we see the world and what it contains as something with a purpose to which we must find in our own sight. He uses an example of marriage and how it is valorized as a hierogamy of heaven and earth.…

Justice and Righteousness in Theological and Contemporary Perspectives in Amos by Alex Prindle God called Amos to prophesy not to his own southern kingdom, but actually to the northern kingdom of Israel, where he was often seen as an imposter. This was very difficult, the people of Israel were not pleased with someone coming into their land and directing them on what to do. Because of this attitude, the people mostly didn’t listen to Amos, and Amos was eventually fed up with the people’s disobedience, thus causing him not to discuss salvation nearly as much as the exilic period to come. This is different from Isaiah’s prophecy written only a little later, as Isaiah more strongly juxtaposed the possibility of reform with eminent takeover, while…
