Hi Emi!
It’s Carlos. I sat in front of you in our ENG 232 class with Dr. Nicholson. I’ve been writing thank you cards to my friends and even those who I didn’t interact much in class in order to say thank you for this year. I know it sounds stupid but I like thanking those who’ve impacted me in a positive way.
Although we didn’t really talk, I did enjoy your extraordinary and eloquent in class & online discussions. I also enjoyed your group presentation on Boomerang. In my opinion, you were the best student in this class! What caught my eye was your appreciation for English literature and the aesthetics that come with it. Your zeal for learning is truly inspirational, Emi.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!

African American Vernacular English is also known as Ebonics is commonly defined as black English. While trying to define Ebonics on an American English grammatical level is tricky, there have been arguments on whether it should be considered a dialect or language. How one comprehends the meaning of Ebonics should do with their understanding of a play on words, while still allowing these similarities and difference to branch off English. There is more depth to Ebonics than people realize, from the structuring to linking the word to other meanings, but it still contains features that are quite different than standard English. To figure out whether Ebonics is a language or a dialect form of English depends on how someone defines the two on a…

The debate around Ebonics as a language has been going on for years. Many say it is merely a dialect and should not be considered a language but on the contrary many say that it is a language and it incorporates the mother tongue of the african american culture and should be accepted in the way that french is to creol. Many see ebonics as lowering the standards, Ebonics coud cause a huge downfall in the children able to read, write and comprehend in standard american english which is considered the norm. At the P.O.W, I still had yet the faintest idea of how to tie a tie, and I sat silently in my chair throughout the meeting. Gradually, things began to change come august. After completing my second semester of Comp, I can honestly say that overall, I have enjoyed myself. I am proud of the work that I put in and feel that my grade best reflects the effort that I have put forth the last four months. One of the most memorable things that I am going to take from this class, is the ability to sprinkle lecture with humor in order to keep your audience’s attention. Because of this technique, I was able to learn so much more than if I would have taken this course over a computer screen or listened to some monotoned man drone on for forty five minutes at the beginning of each day. Although I don’t normally like poetry, I was able to really dig into our major paper and feel that I have such a better understanding of poetry than what I did in the past.…
