Decent Essays
Hi Dana,
I agree with you in order to be a good leader at work or in your personal life you have to be an active listener. I most also admit this was one of my favorite class I learned a lot in these 8weeks the different leadership styles doing self-evaluation and identifying bad habits. Learning about what falls under moral values, ethical standards, and integrity. I believe these lessens will stay with me forever. Great post
I wish you the best of luck with your studies

For my required book I read West Point Way of Leadership. This book, while not the most interesting at times, did teach me quite a few things. The lesson that impacted me the most was that to be a leader, you must first be a follower. I think that this lesson is the most important because it’s often overlooked when one learns about leadership. It’s the most important and impactful lesson because even in everyday life it applies.…

The aim of this paper is to take the teachings, experiences, learnings and knowledge gained throughout my experiences during the 2015 Haskayne wilderness retreat (retreat), and apply them to uncover the foundations required to become a leader and what is required of a responsible leader in the context of sustainability in today’s business environment. Furthermore, I will offer my opinions on the key leadership take a ways I learnt while on the retreat, and how these lessons can be operationalized and put into practice personally and professionally. Throughout the week at the retreat I came to a realization that in order to be a leader, oneself must inherently be a leader themselves. A leader can do so in its simplest form by being completely…

In terms of processing the course teachings, I found the Handbook for Transformative Learning difficult to retain at times. Although this is a topic of great interest to me and the current context in which I serve; the material has often caused me to gravitate more towards The Adaptive Leadership textbook by Heifetz. All things considered, I believe that the development of the Synergy paper actually presents the student and pastoral leaders with a unique opportunity to shape the destiny of the local church and the AME denomination by virtue of two major advantages at their disposal. First, the availability and accessibility of successful nationally recognized experts in the area of Adaptive Leadership and Transformative Learning. Having a full arsenal of proven experts present during our first semester at Payne Theological Seminary caused a hunger in my spirit.…

I have discovered the areas that I have been successful in as well as the many areas that I will need to make improvements. For example, prior to this class I had no knowledge of the X and Y theories. Now I realize that I operated with the mindset of a theory X manager and had the same thought process about all employees collectively, which in return made me less effective and resulted in not reaching maximum production. I currently will apply this knowledge to communicate more effectively with my current managers and to better recognize what theory they most resemble and why they interact with me on the level that they do. This class will also assist me greatly in my future goals to own a business in which I possibly will have to manage multiple people in different departments.…

My leadership philosophy is one that is rooted in the strong belief that it must be a continuous quest to motivate all students to become critical thinkers, effective communicators, and lifelong learners, while possessing outstanding character. This includes assisting students with discovering their talents and interests, therefore developing a love of learning, while developing into ethical, productive citizens. Accomplishing this requires a leader who is knowledgeable in pedagogy and curriculum, including the use of data and current assessments to enhance instruction, and who possesses outstanding communication skills, the ability to manage an operation’s resources effectively, promotes collaboration and teamwork, and is passionate and committed to helping students learn. I believe that my interpersonal skills will be my biggest strength as an educational leader. Those small things have allowed me to transform into the person that I am today.…
