Hi Cavon,

I liked you definition of "Christ-haunted."Throughout these stories we meet many character who we can tell was raised in faith but did not follow those teaching in their adult life. For example, Parker ran away from his faith and the grandmother used hers for manipulation and as a character shield.

Gender inequality in the workplace is prevalent now and has been for hundreds of years even with the presence of laws and policies that forbid it. Kristen Schilt the author of “Just One of the Guys?” targets how natural difference schemas shape today’s workplace and reinforce gender inequality. She does so by using both open and stealth transmens’ experiences in the workplace to provide examples of how natural difference schemas are prevalent and hard to undo. Schilt also highlights how race, height, sex, and masculinity can benefit or hurt one's place in work world. Before understanding how natural difference schemas shape the workplace, fully understanding what a natural difference schema is necessary.…

The only appliance that is not from the 1970’s is his TV, which of course, the 83 year old was, forced to replace due to the original TV he had, which was a gift, burned out. These obvious lack of keeping up with present technology shows John’s clear avoidance of any and all things modernized. Health and nutrition have been an essential part of life since the beginning of time, but more recently these topics are shared and examined more frequently than ever, especially in America. In Michael Pollan’s article “Our National Eating Disorder,” Claudia Kalb’s “Food News Blues,” and Karin Kratina’s “The Right Thing to Do?” it is made apparent that how we eat may be just as important as what we eat. These three authors make very valid points about American’s obsession with health fads and negative thinking towards many food groups.…

The most troubling event in the text happening in the fourth chapter of the novel. In the camp called Buna, when raids would occur with some foreign attacks on the camp, they would go into what was called an alert. During these alerts, the procedure was for the inmate to stay in their blocks or otherwise be shot by the SS. These could taken place at any given time so inmates had to stop their work and in one instance cauldrons of soup were left unattended. This left inmates with a choice to make either to risk your life for some soup or just follow orders and just hope for better days.…

The advice the narrator's grandfather gives him is an attempt to empower the narrator. I think his reasoning for saying, "Let ‘em swoller you till they vomit or bust wide open" is to tell the narrator never give up. He wants him to keep going even if they can't stomach him any longer and to fight for what he believes in despite what other people's reactions are to it. Let people be sick of what the narrator does but that shouldn't make him stop what he's trying achieve.…

First and foremost, I would state that I believe that Cahn’s arguments, with regards toward morality being independent of God and religion, remain justly founded. When looking at the world, past and present, societies have always been established by a sense of morals. Now, regardless of the spiritual or nonspiritual beliefs of different societies, there have always been a set of rules/morals that every person lives by regardless of individuals’ specific belief systems. Without this fundamental acceptance of basic rules and morals no society could be successful. I believe, those of us with an additional developed intellect, can make a consensus that religion stood developed out of necessity toward helping fortify and strengthen the morals…

As people, we thrive on relationships with others. However many may agree that bringing down friendships takes much less effort than building them up. One harsh word or bitter action, and the friendship ends. In his song titled “I Want to Say I 'm Sorry,” Andrew Peterson covers this very theme. This song takes the form of an apology, and with it he expresses the sorrow of an argument which separated him and a close friend, and yet gives hope at the end.…

I enjoyed watching the movie ‘I Am’ by director Tom Shadyac. He added just the right amount of humor in a serious movie that was trying to prove a point and change minds. My thoughts on the video “I Am” I believe the point that Mr. Shadyac was trying to make is that he feels that societies need to have more stuff and our need for power and rule is somehow a mental illness. The dictionary defines mental illness as “a broadly inclusive term, generally denoting one or all of the following: 1) a disease of the brain, with predominant behavioral symptoms, a disease of the "mind" or personality, evidenced by abnormal behavior, as in hysteria or schizophrenia; also called mental or emotional disease, disturbance, or disorder, or behavior disorder;. I believe you can describe the subject matter of his video as a mental illness to some extent.…

“Culture is so influenced by its dominant religions that whether a writer adheres to the beliefs or not, the values and principles of those religions will inevitably inform the literary work.” (Thomas C. Foster, How To Read Literature Like A Professor) Thus, the traits of characters from the dominant religion’s stories appear in literacy across the globe. One figure that often appears in literature is a symbolic Christ, because the world resides in a Christian dominated culture. There are distinctive qualities that make a character the symbolic Christ of a story, such as forgiveness and being tempted by the devil.…
