Abstract: Hamas and Hezbollah are assessed on various bases to compare them. This writing presents functional and ideological comparison between the two groups, which stand on their ideological grounds. The aspects of these groups are assessed on categories of historical, ideological and military keeping in mind the weight and nature of the actions taken.

It has evolved into a holistic political party that has a military wing and “social welfare” front. Sheikh Yassin of the Egyptian faction of the Islamic Brotherhood founded it in 1987. It emerged as a branch of the Brotherhood after the first Intifada (Palestinian resistance against Israeli invasion in Gaza and west bank). Dawah, its social welfare front carried out social work by providing free medical service to people wounded during the Intifada. They carried out other works such as reconstructing buildings, schools, orphanages and mosques. This helped them to gain the trust of Gaza. Israel was known to have maintained political and consultative relationship with the leaders of Hamas. In 1991, the military wing al-Qassam Brigades was officially established. Deep rooted with their anti-Semitic views, they launched multiple suicide bombings against Israeli civilians and military targets. Hamas participated in the 2006 Palestinian legislative election and won majority seats. This way Hamas established itself as the face of Gaza against Israeli occupation of its territories.1 (Chehab,
