Hester Prynne is a Good Mother to Pearl in The Scarlet Letter A mother’s role is to love and care for her children. In Nathaniel Hawthorne’s book The Scarlet Letter , Hester is a wonderful mother. First, Hester has provided Pearl with many different physical needs. Second, Hester teaches academic and life lessons to Pearl. Lastly, Hester never abandoned Pearl even with the fact she had to raise a child all own her own. Hester turned herself into being a good mother on her own. To begin, Hester provided Pearl with many different physical needs. For instance, she provided a small thatched cottage, on the outskirts of town. The “small cottage stood on a shore , looking across the sea” that provided them water , then “across to the forest-covered hills.”(Hawthorne ch. 5) The quotes stated by the author were about the lifestyle Pearl and Hester live. The cottage provided shelter and warmth and a workplace that provided money for food and cloth to make new clothing for Pearl. Although Hester committed a sin, everyone just assumes she’s a horrible person and mother to Pearl. Hester doesn’t get the time of day from anyone. Over a course of time , Hester proves to be a wonderful mother. To begin, Hester provided Pearl with many physical needs, for instance: food,water, clothing and shelter. Second, Hester provided Pearl with many different life lessons and academics. Lastly, she raised Pearl without any assistance for seven years and made everything workout. Hester adores Pearl and has been a wonderful mother to Pearl over the years, even though sometimes it was stressful and Pearl wouldn't appreciate things.
