Hervey Bay is a city in Queensland, Australia. It lays 300 kilometres north of Brisbane. It has 41,225 inhabitants (2006).
1770, James Cook reached this territory and called it Hervey's Bay. Matthew Flinders charted a big part of the coast in 1802. In 1863, the first Europeans settled on the coast and at a later time, the city Hervey Bay was built. In 1913, the city got connected to the railway. In the 1920's, the population exploded. The agriculture expanded because of the sugar, citrus fruits, and cattle farming. In the 1930's, the road link to the 30km away Maryborough was asphalted.

There are many shipwrecks on Fraser Island. For example the SS Maheno, which sunk in 1935. It was a luxury liner and an emergency ship. On the deck was a shooting practice area and a timber yard.
Fraser Island is a great place to see birds, other fauna and flora. There are more than 230 species of birds. One of Australia's rarest bird, the ground parrot, lives there. You can watch kangaroos, wallabies, and possums. The rainforest can only grow because of a mixture of plants and some fungus species.
