In fact, since the Castle’s current and historical populace is so transient, it might even be considered easier to be a citizen of it than anywhere else. However, defining which people qualify to citizenship and which do not is more complex than it appears. Without delving into the question, citizenship seems to include 'all those who share in the civic life of ruling and in being ruled in return' (Kostakopoulou, pg 14). Anyone who is falls both in someone’s charge and is in charge of someone else in one society could, based on this definition, claim citizenship to it. But, according to Turner’s and Hamilton’s ‘Citizenship: Critical Concepts, Volume 1’, citizenship is vastly more intricate. It develops both from above, via those in charge, and from below, through more local institutions (199). At Herstmonceux Castle, a combination of both is at play. Those in highest charge hire and admit people to distinctive groups, while these groups’ members later determine their own traditions and customs, informing the details of their own citizenship. Hence, in the 21st Century, the citizens of the Castle become the Friends of Herstmonceux, Bader students, Bader staff and faculty, and Castle staff and faculty. It will contain a basic history of Herstmonceux Castle as a building and as a cultural landmark, as well as multiple pages detailing what one can do while spending their time on its grounds. Additionally, it will showcase the stellar faculty, staff, and other notable figures who live and have lived or worked within its walls since the time of Sir Roger Fiennes. Every major current event happening at Bader International Study Centre will appear too, by way of an on-site calendar; it will also contain information on towns nearest the property. The site’s visitors can always know what might be occurring that day or week, both for leisure and for harder work, and hence will help them become part of the Castle community properly. In order to accomplish such a large and multifaceted task, I will split the work into 5 week-long blocks, going from the 5th week of this semester to the 10th. In basic summation, Week 5 will see the setup of the general overall domain and major links within the website, all posted by Friday. By the Friday of Week 6, every major link will have at least some writing under its heading. Next, Week 7 and Week 8 are dedicated to filling up the website with as much relevant information as can fit. As of this stage in pre-planning, I cannot yet lay out most of the detail-based work. However, as soon as the project groups are
