Hershey's Kisses Advertisement Analysis

Introduction

This memo is for the purpose of advising your department in the area of advertisement. It is an honor to work with such a well know company as Hershey’s and I am confident that my analysis will help your company reach its target audience more effectively. I have analyzed your advertisement for Hershey’s Kisses which appeared in the November 2002 issue of FamilyFun on page 137. This magazine primarily targets parents. Although a child might occasionally flip through, mothers (especially) and fathers would be this advertisement’s primary audience. I have included a detailed analysis of the ad and recommendation of changes. Presently your advertisement is focused, but it does not engage the reader. However, with just a few changes

My first thought was “Why is there so much white space?” Many others have probably wondered the very same thing. The white space is overwhelming and it almost gives the impression that the artists who designed the ad ran out of time, resources, or creativity. I suggest that a heartwarming Christmas image be inserted in the background. A picture of a couple curled up on the couch drinking hot coco would be a better choice. This will engage the reader and give the ad a setting and the potential for a story. The colors should spring forth from the page in all their glory. The Christmas jingle currently featured below the kisses is cute and should be a more prominent element of the advertisement. The text should be larger and a more elegant (or jollier) font should be used. The kisses should still be the prominent feature of the ad. With these changes to the appearance comes the potential for many additional emotional appeals. The cabin in the woods sort of feeling in the imagery could speak to the need to escape, and the couple curled up by the fire could speak to the need to feel safe or the need for sex. If a couple of children or a baby was added to the picture, the ad could also speak to the need to

This is a primary example of sex in today’s advertisement. Unlike other subtle advertising that require the works of our imagination, this advertising jumps straight to the point. These ads purposely get you to think of two things: sex and their products. Our brains have been hard-wired for billions of years to transform everything into sex. The marketers use this fact to target their customers.…

Advertisements have long been a part of marketing since newspapers became the way news got around. They have become a core part of any news, show, and talk show. Every part of an advertisement can have a certain appeal to getting the reader to pay attention. A prime example is the advertisement below where the advertiser used pathos to show that giving a kid a cigar is as much as a common occurrence as eating a piece of meat. Which leads to an increased risk of cancer for kids in an effort to fear parents into being vegan.…

The apartment in which the ad takes place has a green carpet that covers most of the background, this is to help contrast with the red text and make it pop out to the viewer. The carpet, although not the most pleasant shade of green, is neat and clean, almost unused by the couple. The lighting in the household is directed solely towards the couple and also helps bring attention to the text of the advertisement, which is well lit. The doors are locked to help give the couple the privacy they want. The viewer feels voyeuristic, as they are viewing something forbidden, this has the effect of invoking even more curiosity from the viewer.…

PowerAde and Gatorade Ad Analysis and conclusion Since the inception of advertisements, companies have tried to differentiate themselves from similar products. Many things can be used to contrast their product compared to other products, including picture contrast, positive appeals to ethos, pathos and logo’s, and image-text placement. I decided to do my rhetorical analysis on two images in a very similar market, a Gatorade advertisement, and a PowerAde advertisement. Through my evaluation of each image I will evaluate which image is most effective in my opinion.…

Being smaller, fainter, and near the bottom of the ad, it is actually more of an afterthought. It is a confirmation that yes, the baby in the photo represents a fetus consuming second-hand smoke. The photo I chose to analyze is simple. There are no faces to express emotion, and no colors but black and white. The character in the advertisement is not even a real person.…

With any type of advertisement there is always some type of photographic piece which mainly focuses on the story you are trying to convey. In this ad you see a young girl, who look as if she is in her late teens, maybe early twenty’s, who has nothing attractive about her looks ,but has a hook coming from her mouth which symbolizes that with smoking you are trapped; once you are hooked it is hard to quit. Furthermore, with this advertisement you also see a sign of pathos, which Udemy Blog says, “when ads appeal to the emotional need of the audience; it is generally to promise product or ad to serve a…

“Advertising’s Fifteen Basic Appeals” by Jib Fowles outlines the fifteen different areas in which advertisers try to manipulate the average consumer's mind by showing how they would be happier, accepted more, or better looking if they would buy a certain product. He delves into the structure of advertisement and sets a microscope on how the industry exploits the need for attention, aesthetic sensations, fulfill physical needs and etc by playing on the emotions of the human mind. Fowles states that an advertiser attempts to win the attention of consumers by giving a shape to the people’s deep-lying desire in a manner which they personally wish for. Advertisers make efforts to enforce both implicit and explicit messages in hopes of trying to manipulate consumers’ decisions. I will analyze…

In the world of business presentation is a must do, if the staff to include the ownership don’t look classy and sharp it becomes a deterrent to the prospective customer. A small town wants to see the signals of prosperity and this ad reflects the opposite. There are more sophisticated ways to introduce the business to the community, such as the high school band, with their cheerleaders in exchange of new uniforms and new instruments, it sounds expensive, but it’s not if those are the future customers, become acquainted with the community, a mural of the entire football team with the starts pass and presented in a three dimensional format.
