The trait may not suitable for all situation. Daft (2011) stated that the effective leader’s characteristic may unsuitable to the other situation faced. This showed that particular personal characteristic cannot guarantee for effective. Additionally, he also mentioned that there are some effective leader actually do not have the characteristic. Although the leader is lack of the characteristic, but they still can lead people effectively. Hersey et al. (1996) declared that this theory focused on the followers as the central component of the situation and then determine the most suitable leader behaviour to lead. It emphasis that the effective leader has the ability to adapt their leadership style based on different level of readiness among the followers. The more the leader can adapt to the changes, the more the effective of their influences take place. The model of SLT was showed in Appendix A.
In SLT, there are two behaviour are focused, which are task behaviour and relationship behaviour (Hersey et al., 1996). Combination of these two behaviour in different degree developed four basic leader behaviour quadrants, which labelled as high task and low relationship (Q1); high task and high relationship (Q2); high relationship and low task (Q3); low relationship and low task (Q4).
