Genital herpes is a sexually transmitted infection caused by Herpes Simplex Virus. This virus affects the genitals, cervix, and skin in other parts of the body. Herpes is a chronic condition but many people never have symptoms even though they carry the virus. HSV-1 is the most common causing oral herpes but can cause genital herpes through oral to genital contact. HSV-2 is primarily transmitted through sexual contact. The symptoms of herpes simplex virus are typically blisters or multiple bluster in the infected area, when the blisters break it leaves a tender sore.The best thing to do when thinking you have herpes is to go to the doctor, there they will most likely give you acyclovir, famciclovir or valacyclovir since these are the most effective medication. These medications does not rid your body of the virus but it does lesson the symptoms. …show more content…
Type 1 is not dangerous if you take care of it before it begins to spread. If not taken care of it can spread to the eyes known as ocular herpes which can lead to blindness, it can slowly spread to the brain causing herpes encephalitis which can lead to death.
