2o English Each and every single person has his or her own adventure, and behind each story is a Hero's Journey. In our Hero's Journey, Erandi, Raymond, and I, The Oreos, will be competing our way to the Ultimate Slam, a grand tournament that everyone, across the entire bay area, is fighting to get into. For this reason, the three of us will have to combat a rigorous and intense battle to the top. As we prepare for the upcoming tournament, our shihan, or head instructor, will be mentoring us all along our journey. Thus, we will train diligently together, trying to perfect every single movement, moving as fluid as water. Meanwhile, we specialize in team katas, or pre-constructed fighting forms. As a result, we needed a team name. …show more content…
"Now, do we all agree to this name?" "Sure!" Erandi and I said in unison. "Then it's agreed. We shall be called The Oreos." About two weeks before the big day, with time ticking down, pushing us closer to the big day, a pandemonium of chaos and anguish arise. First, during a failed attempt at a tornado kick, Erandi, unfortunately, injures her knee, causing her to be absent and unable to practice for an entire week. Then, I come down with an atrocious cold and my asthma symptoms starts acting up, leaving me bedridden. Afterwards, Raymond's mother sadly passes away in a terrible car accident. Ultimately, the entire team is in despair. After an entire week of separation, fortunately, we are able to gather up all our strength and walk into the tournament. As we walk in, hundreds of people, all over are sitting in the bleachers cheering, yelling, and screaming for their team. Competitors psyching themselves up for battle. The three of us look at each other knowing that what lay ahead was not going to be an easy road. "You guys, I think I'm going to be sick. We haven't been practicing and I don't know if we'll make it," said …show more content…
Just remember what we practiced and breathe," Shihan said with much hesitation and anxiety filled his eyes. "I really wish my mom could have been here to see us," said Raymond. "Don't worry. She will be cheering for us the entire time. Trust me. Today we will win and make her proud, okay?" I said as I comforted him. After the registration procedure, we head to the waiting room. In there, snacks, drinks, food were all laid out for us to enjoy, but no one ate a single bite. At the same time, no one even said a word. We were just too nervous. During our period of silence, An hour in the waiting room has passed and our names were called to the ring. We were next to go up. "Next up, from San Francisco, California, may we present, The Oreos!"
Stomachs turning, shallow breathing, hearts pumping were all we felt, but as soon as we stepped into the ring, our eyes lit up with energy. Our kicks flew into the air with great dynamics, our punches were as fast as lighting, and our movements were as graceful as water. Even with our pains and suffering, no matter what happened outside the ring, but together we were unstoppable. At the end of the first round, the results were announced. Everyone crowded around the scoreboard and stayed in complete silence seeing who would past to the next
