Through Atticus Finch the author shows the reader about courage, bravery, and persistent. All throughout the novel, Atticus is showing courage by not showing any bias like the rest of the Maycomb town. Atticus is explaining to Jem that with different members of the jury there could be a different result and they both might not live to see this change made. Atticus states his opinion on this by saying “The one place where a man ought to get a square deal is in a courtroom, be he any color of the rainbow, but people have a way of carrying their resentments right into a jury box” (Lee 295). Boo despite his fears of the outside world showed all characteristics of being a hero when he came out of the house to help save Jem and Scout. After the attack Scout describes what she sees as “He was going around the corner. He was carrying Jem. Jem’s arm was dangling crazily in front of him” (Lee 352). This shows Boo is a protector of the children and treats them as if their his. His courage and bravery does not stop there; Boo also stabbed Bob Ewell and killed him. “Bob Ewell’s lyin’ on the ground under that tree down yonder with a kitchen knife stuck up under his ribs.
