What is Heroism?
“Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed” (Bob Riley). Growing up most people assumed heroes to always be strong and have superpowers, that they always needed to take on a bad guy and do it with confidence. However, heroes can come in all shapes and sizes and they don’t always have to be big and powerful. All one needs to be is a kind and honest soul for that is a superpower in its own right. Although people face hardships every day, if they never give up, are not selfish, and believe in themselves then true heroism can shine through.
Determination is something not many people have. To be able to try your hardest every single day and never give up even when faced with setbacks is what being a hero is all about! Many people decide that if something hard or confusing comes up that they might as

If one is selfless then it can benefit them in the long run because normally being selfless means making the right choice. Firefighters are great examples of men and women who put their lives on the line to save yours. In the Los Angeles Times article titled Love Triumphs: 6-year-old Becomes a Hero to Band of Toddlers, Rescue a 6-year-old boy named Deamonte Love showed selflessness when he protected other children who had lost their parents from a hurricane. He didn’t do it to feel good about himself or to make the children worship him, he did it because he needed to protect people going through the same thing as him. Moving on, in Where I Find My Heroes the author discusses how even the tiniest deeds can have a lasting effect. In the middle of the article the author states, “Who is heroic? Scientists who spend years of their lives trying to find cures for diseases” (Stone 74). Scientists are busy people and they also have lives yet they devote their days to trying to save others from deadly illnesses and that is what selflessness
