What defines a hero?, or in better terms, What makes a hero, a hero? Is it their drive of confidence to complete their difficult challenges, or maybe their constant perseverance that pushes them to reach the finish line. Heroes can be anyone, or even anything, as long as one strives for the better things in life. Some people may say that in order to be a hero, you have to win, in fact it’s really it is the opposite. In order to be a hero you have to fail, and then pick yourself up again. Although heroism is not always winning the battle, heroism is defined by one's bravery, selflessness, and determination to help others. Bravery is shown in a hero when they are taking the risk for the lives of others. For instance, in the article, “A Man”, …show more content…
Abraham Lincoln showed great courage, and sacrifice for our country while he was president. However, his most important trait was selflessness. Lincoln was able to provide the country with something bigger than just himself, he gave them more freedom, and rights, for everyone. An Example, would be “ “He is dead; but the cause he so ardently loved, so ably, patiently, faithfully represented and defended -- not for himself only, not for us only, but for all people in all of their coming generations, till time shall be no more.”(Sermon Pg. 77). This evidence proves that Abraham Lincoln passed away, except the cause he wanted to stop, and make a change to, still lives on. Most importantly, he made our country what it is today. More evidence to show would be little children that donate their presents to the homeless because they realize that they already have enough. A hero never backs down from a fight, and they never run away from any obstacles thrown their way. Ana never, did any of this either. Also, Ana was always facing her challenges, even though some of them were not won. Ana’s husband, had said, “You are determined to make sure that Monica and Rebekah get their school work done, get to the dance academy, and are ready to teach their Sunday school class.” (An Everyday Hero, Pg.50). What Ana does in one day with cancer, not many people without cancer do in one week. Other acts of determination could include a teenager that creates a fundraiser help little children get freshly cooked meals because they are less fortunate.
