“Nothing is given to man on earth - struggle is built into the nature of life, and conflict is possible - the hero is the man who lets no obstacle prevent him from pursuing the values he has chosen.” - Andrew Bernstein. I concur with Mr. Bernstein, life's a struggle, and heroes are the ones who can push through without letting obstacles get in their way. However, heroism is different to everyone. To some, it might be to look impressive or act above the ordinary, and to others, it might be to have incredible strength and courage, or maybe it’s something as simple as being kind. It’s so hard to truly define heroism since there's such a broad spectrum of heroic acts. Everyone has a list of their heroes, but if asked what the definition of heroism …show more content…
Heroes see humanity kneeling to the concepts ingrained in their brain, and they try and help others out of their enforced state of mind. In order to understand the definition of a hero, it’s important to know some examples, such as Katniss from The Mockingjay. Katniss and the districts are expected to accept and comply with the outrageous rules set by the Capital, but Katniss thinks they are corrupt and leads a rebellion against them. The citizens of Panem saw her valiant effort and became inspired to join. If it wasn’t for Katniss, Panem would still be under the rule of the Capital. She was able to be independent and choose her own state of mind, in doing so she helped transform the whole population's view. In addition to Katniss, another hero is Tris from Insurgent. Alongside a group of friends, Tris escape the government and gathers people to lead a revolution against the government. Only a handful of people even knew how corrupt the government was, so Tris helped lift their facade and show people their true form. If Tris had conformed to society's standards, she would of never of been able to give the people of her community such an unrestricted life.
