For example the author quotes,“It forced upon the reluctant sensibility of europe a recognition that the greeks, the romans and ourselves shared a common parentage with baboons, gorillas and chimpanzees.” The author here is trying to explain that there is a relationship between humans and animals in that they share common characteristics. In the text he talked about how one of the developed aspects/characteristics from animals that we received was human aggression. Just as animals have aggression in their everyday life, so do human beings. The author then goes on to talking about “Warrior virtues.” For example the author states, “The

After reading the essay “Heroism: Why Heroes are Important” by Scott LaBarge once, I went back again and read it a second time. The second time I read it, I looked specifically for the use of rhetorical appeals, and I then began to write my essay. The first thing I did was use my analysis of LaBarge's use of rhetorical appeals to create my thesis statement: “LaBarge effectively uses the rhetorical appeals of ethos, logos, and kairos to convince his audience that heroes are important.” I then looked for specific examples of each appeal I said he used in order to develop support for my thesis.…

The argument of Margaret Mead makes in her essay, Warfare Is Only an Invention – Not a Biological Necessity, is completely valid. She claims that warfare is learned and is as much of an invention as the justice system and that until a different behavior comes to replace war and make it unnecessary, humans will resort to warfare. She is not unhopeful that another invention will develop to replace war, explaining that propaganda against war and exposing the true impacts of violence will help to detract from its appeal. Many argue that war is a natural human instinct that can be suppressed, but not annihilated; however if analyzing this question on the grounds of human biology, one would expect to see characteristics of warfare in many mammals.…

At the beginning of the year, I described war as something that is inevitable, something that is so engrained in human existence. It, like many other human advancements like agriculture and technology has grown over the course of time. It has become in a sense “more”. More violent, more destructive, and more overwhelming. It hasn’t become more civilized over the years.…

From completing all of the readings I think that it is secure to say that fighting isn't always an innate part of human nature, yet is rather an extensive piece of our social build. Animosity it appears to be, similar to culture, is a scholarly/taught conduct. It can be impacted upon others. war has advanced over time as we've got seen matters that others had and we desired,so keeping in mind the end goal to pick up those things we needed to battle to get them or shield them. "Warfare is the inescapable attendant of the improvement of the state, the battle for area and common assets of class social orders springing, not from the way of man, but rather from the way of history."…

Freedom as an act of Heroism The Awakening is a novel that portraits the struggles of a woman named Edna during her search for enlightenment. As James Geary once said; “Heroism often results as a response to extreme events.” In H.G. Wells’s book The War of the World’s the narrator does not show this trait of heroism. All throughout War of the World’s the narrator makes many unheroic choices and actions. The narrator has many examples as being unheroic such as not helping people in danger and leaving others to die. The narrator is not a traditional hero because he is selfish, inhumane, and also ignorant.…

Throughout the novella “I am Legend” by Richard Matheson, Robert Neville incorporates the role of an anti-hero. For example, on page 38, he states that “he wouldn't put Virginia there. Not if they killed him for it." In this quote, Robert states his opinion on taking his dead wife to a pit where the deceased are burned alive. He refuses, which clearly goes against the regime that has been put into place by society in order to stop the contamination.…
