In the article from Newsela “Issue Overview: Heroin Addiction, By; Lauren Etter states “On the other hand, there is growing evidence that painkillers like OxyContin and Vicodin are leading to new heroin use. Even though these painkillers are opioids, like heroin, doctors can legally give them to patients.” The data that is provided is saying that many doctors have legally given patients to many pills and that they may not have been noticing that they are misusing them. The reason for the mis-using drugs is because they are painkillers so they take the pain away from people, and before they know it they are hooked on the drugs.
