35-year-old Caucasian heroin addict female, Heather. Single mother of two. Suffered lower back injury from a car accident and was prescribed Percocet 10mg for the injury. She went to a pain specialist for the pain and was eventually put on a different dosage. The doctor gave her Percocet 30mg because the pain intensified. During this time the pain specialist was investigated and later closed due to over medicating patients and no documentation. The patient could not afford to buy pills off the street which cause her to find a cheaper alternative. Her choice of drug at that time was heroin. The patient continued this habit for five years resulting in a drug charge leading to her arrest. She served 6 months in penitentiary which allowed her the opportunity to recover.
Interview took place on a Saturday evening around 8pm. The client seemed happy and very willing to give the interview. Heather lives in an urban neighborhood with her two kids, in a lesbian relationship. She is currently working at a restaurant for the last two years earning minimum wage to support her two children. I did not have a choice but to get it out of my system. I could not run to the streets and go get more, the gates were locked. I had to sit through the shakes, sickness and urge. There was nothing I can do and no one could help me at this point. My previous attempts failed because the streets were right outside my front door so all I had to door was open the door and it was right there. There was no one to stop me and all the drugs I wanted was waiting on me, calling my name. This time I had restrictions, all I could do was think about how I used to do it and what it did to my life. I am glad it was this way because it gave me the opportunity to think things over and to but my life back together. Jail saved my life. It gave me a new start with my kids and
