Ender’s Game Heroic is a trait of Andrew Wiggins in the story Ender's Game by Orson Scott. In the book Andrew Wiggins also known as Ender develops 3 very important traits through the story. The 3 main traits that Ender had to have in the story for it to be a good story are Ender being brave, being heroic, and being loving. If he wouldn't have had those traits then the story wouldn't be good. In the story Ender went threw batte school, command school, normal school where he got picked on, and many more hard challenges. Ender had to go threw battle school and command school because they had to prepare him for the battle with the buggers which were the aliens that had attacked Earth twice.

“In the moment when I truly understand my enemy, understand him well enough to defeat him, then in that very moment I also love him. I think it’s impossible to really understand somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves. And then, in that very moment when I love them.... I destroy them” that show how Ender he loves all his enemies and everyone he meets and it hurts him to kill them.“So the whole war is because we can't talk to each other” this shows Ender finds we are fighting with the buggers for a stupid reason and it is all because they can't communicate with us and he thinks we should stop and be friends which shows he is loving. “Ender didn't like fighting. He didn't like Peter's kind, the strong against the weak” this shows Ener is loving and doesn't want to fight people unless it is a even battle or where it is a battle of being smart and not of strength. This was a conversation with Ender and one of his leaders “You made them hate me." Said Ender
"So? What will you do about it? Crawl in a corner? Start kissing their little backsides so they'll love you again? There's only one thing that will make them stop hating you. And that's being so good at what you do that they can't ignore you. I told them you were the best. Now you damn well better be." Said Graff.” That shows Ender doesn't like when people hates him and he wants them to love him so he can love them. “I didn't want to hurt him!" Ender cried. "Why didn't he just leave me alone!” That shows Ender doesn't like to hurt people and he is loving but if they fight him he has to fight

Mazer Rackham tricked him into believing that was participating in a ‘final game’ and it was testing Ender’s abilities but, Ender fights against the buggers with no idea what was happening. “Within three seconds the entire plant burst apart, becoming a sphere of bright dust, hurtling outward.” (295) Ender saw this planet blow up and just thought he had won the game with his squadron. He took off his headphones and saw tears, laughter, and exchange of hugs. Within minutes he found out that he had just led his group to beat and kill the buggers, when he thought it was just a game. Mazer and everyone around him had been tricking him for the multiple years he had been in this world. But my question is: was not telling him the best thing for him? As we do not know what would have happened if they had been honest with him. An article by Sara Day titled “Liars and Cheats: Crossing the Lines of Childhood, Adulthood, and Morality in Ender’s Game”, she supports Ender’s intelligence and strength by writing “...Ender has become cynical, and he struggles with a complex network of ideas about children and adults, students and teachers, heroes and villains, which Mazer further exploits to ensure that the young man will behave as the adults expect him to during the final battle”(219) Ender was being mistreated his whole life in space and he thought it was just hard training. These men had to choose between potentially saving the world and Ender’s sanity. They obviously chose the chance of Ender saving the world and although it did work, the abuse that was given to Ender was so strong it broke him and who he was before leaving, training, and the final…

First of all, the two administrators of the battle school plan to make Ender’s life decisions limited, “ Isolate him enough that he remains creative – otherwise he’ll adopt the system here and we’ll lose him. At the same time, we need to make sure he keeps a strong ability to lead.”(20). Ender’s life is controlled and monitored at battle school, not much different from his life at home, the expect Ender to go against the system and create new ways to succeed in the battle room. Also, they make Ender the teacher’s pet, so he deals with conflicts at each moment.Another important moment was when, Dink Meeker, Ender’s toon leader, contradicts the real enemy, “Because as long as people are afraid of the buggers, the IF can stay in power, and as long as the IF is in power, certain countries can keep their hegemony.”(79). The IF strives to be in control, while the buggers remain alive they are the only protection for mankind. If the buggers never attacked again, The IF would be in danger of losing its authority, hence the reason for Ender to destroy the buggers for good. In conclusion, Ender comes to realization about who controls his life, “Welcome to the human race. Nobody controls his own life, Ender. The best you can do is choose to fill the roles given you by good people, by people who love you.”(129). Ender has this wall-breaking moment because he realizes the whole…

It is the defining feature of the protagonist of Ender’s Game. Ender proves his point that he is the greatest soldier in Battle School to Graff and Major Anderson, when he says, “You want to make me the best soldier possible. Go down and look at the standings. Look at the all-time standings. So far you're doing an excellent job with me. Congratulations. Now when are you going to put me up against a good army?” (191). Ender is an exceptional soldier and leader and the reason he plays the games so well is his ability to understand the enemy and inspire loyalty. The only thing saving him is compassion. In agreement with Sparknotes.com, “If not for his compassion, he would have been turned into an automaton; he would have become either a killing machine or a power-hungry creature like Peter.” During the end of the book, Ender promises the queen of the Buggers that he will find her a new home due to the invasion he got tricked into doing. He and Valentine went on a spaceship to go from world to world and always Ender had a dry white cocoon with him, looking for a place where the queen of the Buggers could awaken and thrive in peace (324). Ender’s compassion for the Buggers gets him through the idea that he destroyed their race, but now will be able to help them start a new civilization. He seeks to atone for his sin by searching for a new home for the surviving Bugger queen. Ender proves that in the…

In Ender’s Game, by Orson Scott Card, Ender is a very controversial character. Many people believe that he is a killer with a violent spirit, and that he meant to commit genocide, while I disagree. I believe that Ender has an innocent spirit, a friendly conscience, and was repeatedly used as a weapon. He was provoked when fighting Stilson and Bonzo, was constantly controlled by the adults, and did not have the intent of genocide on the buggers.…

    Genocide In Ender's Game

Ender leads the attack against the Buggers’ home world; in the process of doing so, he commands pilots and soldiers to give their lives in a kamikaze style. The attack leads to the decimation of the entire race: genocide. Ender, himself brings up a good point: “In battle I killed ten billion buggers, whose queens, at least, were as alive and wise as any man, who had not even launched a third attack against us, and no one thinks to call it a crime” (Ender’s Game, 309). The civilization that Ender is responsible for destroying did nothing to prompt an attack of that scale. Ender’s supporters may claim that because he feels guilt, he is innocent. However, realizing that he is responsible does not excuse his actions or wash the blood of millions from his hands. Other of Ender’s supporters use the defense that Ender did not know he was taking real lives. The counter argument is this: Ender was bred and trained to calculate every possible outcome, to notice every detail and plan accordingly for every situation which he could be put in. To make the allegation that Ender did not suspect his superiors of manipulating him is foolish. Card even attempted to make a case for Ender’s innocence: “Genocide was the result of not understanding the effect on the buggers of the hive queen” (Response, 14). Card must be forgetting the plethora of pages where he writes of Ender analyzing the videos of previous battles and finding that the queens’…

    Heroism In Ender's Game

Ender went through what he thought were several simulations controlling a fleet, but was instead lied to by his mentor, Mazer Rackham, and had been controlling a real fleet at the same time. As a result of this, Ender obliterated the Buggers, unintentionally killing a whole species, which had no longer wanted to war with humanity ages ago but could not communicate this. This is only found out when Ender discovers an unborn pupa of a Bugger queen on the newly inhabited planet, discussing through the communication the Buggers had used, and told Ender, “We did not mean to murder, and when we understood, we never came again.” (109). While Ender knew he was training to lead humanity, he did not want to fight to the death for victory, he sought for peace and understanding. Yet Ender was a killer to be a hero, reigning victorious through the death of another. “‘I didn’t want to kill them all. I didn’t want to kill anybody! I’m not a killer! You didn’t want me, you bastards, you wanted Peter, but you made me do it, you tricked me into it!’ He was crying.”…

There is nothing saying the exact appearance of Ender, but because of his age, 6 years old, I can infer that he’s very short, and has the face and body of a child. Valentine also notices that he is “sun-browned and strong” (Card 234) after he has returned to Earth. Ender’s choice of words show his personality by making himself a serious person and not one that people would go to for sympathy. “Sometimes we make mistakes,” Petra whispered to him once. It was a plea for help. “And sometimes we don’t,” Ender answered her. If she got help, it would not be from him. He would teach; let her find friends among the others.” (Card ‘284) Ender thinks of himself very lowly, and compares himself to Peter, his abusive brother who Ender is not like, showing that he lacks self-esteem. “Ender leaned his head against the wall of the corridor and cried until the bus came. I am just like Peter. Take my monitor away, and I am just like Peter.” (Card 8) Ender often gets into fights, and when he does he “destroys” his enemy and makes sure that they will never hurt him again, showing that he can be a ruthless person. “Ender however, was trying to figure out a way to forestall vengeance. To keep them from taking…

Graff's first lesson to Ender was not given to Ender in the form of a standard lesson. but taught Ender to depend upon himself. While in launch, Ender was called out for laughing by Graff who told the other launchies, “To you, I suppose it is funny. Is it funny to anybody else here? Murmurs of no. Well, why isn’t it... There’s only one boy on this launch with any brains at all, and that’s Ender Wiggins” (31,32). By doing this, Graff made all the other launchies jealous and hate Ender. This further puts Ender into a point where he must rely on himself and not others. At first, Ender was angry about the whole situation and believed Graff was out to set Ender up. However, later on, Ender is put into a situation where he needs to fight for himself. After his solo fight, Ender said to Dink, “His eyes were open, but Bonzo wasn’t thinking or moving anymore. Just that dead, stupid look on his face” (212). Readers can…

One of the most important decisions that affected the story was that Ender agreed to go to battle school because he would protect Valentine, stay away Peter, and he realizes that he was literally born for it. Valentine is Ender’s beloved sister. She always protected Ender from Peter when he was younger and was bullied around. Ender wanted to help her back by fighting the buggers and keeping them from attacking Earth once more. Peter, his brother, was the thing he hated the most in his life. He always bullied him and feared that he was actually like him when he didn’t want to. He also had a conversation with Graff where he found out that there was a reason that he was born a third. As it turned out, Peter and Valentine weren’t good enough, so Ender was supposed to be the perfect one. There are a number of real life meanings that could be taken out of the statement is that family is one of the most important aspects of life that drive your decisions. In real life, when someone decides to join the army, they do it not only to serve the country, but also to protect their families from outside harm. It also tends to change the person itself into someone different, but also they are the same person. In Ender’s game, Ender is not exactly sensitive but not a strong person either. He was protected by Valentine from Peter most of his childhood. After battle school and command school, he is…

Peter created fear in Ender by controlling the way he thought and acted at home and school. For example, Ender would be cautious of everything he would do at home in fear that Peter would punish him later, but would act tough and aggressive at school, where Peter was not around. In the beginning of the book, Peter nearly kills Ender while playing a game of buggers vs astronauts, suffocating him. “He lifted his foot, took a step, and then knelt on Ender, his knee pressing into Ender’s belly just below the breastbone. He put more and more of his weight on Ender. It became hard to breathe.” (Card O.S. Ender’s Game. pg 12. Tor. 1985. Print.) In addition to controlling Ender’s actions, Peter also influenced not only Ender, but Valentine as well. For example, Ender becomes more and more aggressive as time goes on, killing two boys and breaking another’s arm. What makes this more interesting is that Ender is aware of this change of behavior whenever he hurts someone, or something. For…

Ender has many strengths, but his greatest is his intelligence. Ender has always been smart, especially in school. Ender didn’t have to be paying attention to understand what was happening. “[Ender] always knew the answer, even when [the teacher] thought he wasn’t listening” (Card 5). This shows that Ender is so deft that he doesn’t have to pay attention to understand what’s happening. Ender needs intelligence helps him to be able to be a good leader and end the war.
