Heroes From the Past & Today

Heroes today are different than they were in the past. For one thing, they had different codes of conduct than we do today. Some common attributes of a hero are honor, bravery, and loyalty. Now, we tend to judge heroes by how much they interest us and by what the media says. In the past, the heroes were looked upon as Gods or they were given special talents or gifts few people ever had. Now, you have to be a role model whether you are a famous actor, actress, singer, athlete, parent or public servant such as a law enforcement officer, firefighter, EMT. paramedic and military personnel.

They are of royal birth or even half mortal, half god. They must perform extraordinary feats. They are noble characters which is close to perfectly ideal. The suffering of them is physical. Death must occur in a peculiar way. They fight for their own honor and their deeds belong to the community only after their death. Miracles of a daily job prove to the world that these people are heroes. Voluntary actions reflect moral standards and fame is not important. They obtain superhuman powers and extraordinary strength. Most, heroes were male figures who performed remarkable feat of bravery. Some of them went to the Underworld and fought with monsters, others fought with giants, sea serpents and dragons, while others are known due to their family tragedies more than anything else. The heroes became immortals, since the Gods acknowledged their fame and courage.
