It describes in the text, “That was all, and it brought them round to action. But as I sent on them toward Scylla, I told them nothing, as they could do nothing”( XII.783) He was forced to make this tough decision because by telling them he would have created pandemonium and that would not have been for the best of the crew. Although it would have been easier for him if he had had someone to share the grim news with, he was compelled to keep it to himself because it was his responsibility to think of others before himself. It was apparent to the reader how many responsibilities Odysseus had solely while completing the arduous task of taking care of his crewmates. In taking care of his crewmates he was required to look after them and make sure they did not get themselves in trouble, which, especially in this mythical world in which gods and goddesses rule the fates of mortal men, proved to be challenging.…

"Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary" this is a quote from Gerard Way, a famous musician with an insightful viewpoint, regarding heroism. I think this quote represents heroism very simply, yet in the truest way. Homer, in the epic poem, The Odyssey, suggests that Odysseus is a hero. Homer develops this assertion by pointing out Odysseus's heroic characteristics in the various trials that he faces. The speaker's purpose is to inform the audience of what true heroes are like and the traits that they may possess in order for them to understand that Odysseus is the ideal example of a hero, regardless of his flaws.…

(Book 9, 1222, 416-419).Odysseus and what is left of his men have already been trapped on the Cyclops’s island and when they finally get their chance to escape the cyclops, Odysseus puts all of them in danger. The cyclops could have very easily hit the ship they were fleeing away in with a bolder and killed all of them right then. Although the cyclops missed, it was all Odysseus’s fault that they were put in that life threatening situation, just because he felt the need to brag about himself and not look out for others. In the end, a hero is someone who will always look out for those who are helpless and Odysseus is just too conceited to be…

In Sophocles’ successful play “Oedipus the King” the main character, Oedipus, represents himself as a heroic archetype by overcoming such crazy obstacles by his family. In my eyes, a hero represents someone with much bravery and knowledge of what to do in life changing issues. Oedipus may not be the typical suit and armor, cape and magical powers type of hero, but he attempts to do what he believes is right for his own sake. Heroes can be known for their heroic events when they do something extraordinary not just for the benefits for themselves, but also for other citizens.…
