American Hero Definition Essay The definition of a hero can vary from person to person as it can be defined in many different ways. There are types of heroes that people configure to their own ideals and morals. Many people’s own idea of a hero coincides with the definition of an American hero, which is a set type of hero. An American hero is one of the many types of heroes that can be portrayed in various books and movies that have set qualities. Another type of hero is a tragic hero, which is often portrayed as a person who tries to do something heroic, but is led to their own destruction because of their tragic flaw. An American hero is a person who has a sense of justice and is selfless, which can be seen in the movie The Last of the …show more content…
There are many qualities of an American hero that is seen throughout the plot of the story. Nathaniel had been taken in by one of the last Mohicans Chingachgook and learned the ways of the Mohicans. This shows that Nathaniel is not connected to any certain group or society since he had been a white pioneer man before learning the ways of the Mohicans. Due to this fact, he is portrayed as a loner which is one of the traits of an American hero. There are also many parts of the movie where Nathaniel is seen showing his strong sense of justice, which is another American hero trait, such as when he helps the militiamen sneak out of the fort to protect their families after Colonel Munro went back on his word and refused to let them go. Another trait of an American hero in the story is when Nathaniel indirectly wins against the antagonist Magua. He had indirectly defeated Magua in the movie when he went against Magua’s plan of revenge for both Alice and Cora, inevitably saving them and when Magua had taken Alice away as they were climbing the mountain, Nathaniel went after them and fought the warriors with Magua. While these are the traits of one type of hero, an American hero, there is also the tragic hero who is quite different from an American hero as their traits are quite the
