Hero Definition Essay

In the last seconds remaining, he swooped in and saved the pretty girl from falling off the edge of the tallest building in the world. The masked figure accomplished this goal before rushing towards the destroyed urban city; he continued forward, fully aware, relentless, and unaffected. Though it certainly sounds clichéd, this example is perceived as the generic example of a hero. Contrary to public perception, the definition of a hero is not explicitly described as some handsome or muscular male protagonist; a hero is someone who bravely and willingly does what is righteous and needed in the face of danger.
Dictionary.com defines a hero as “a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.” Keeping this in mind, one can see that a hero is so much more than the stereotyped attractive man in tights. A true hero can never be considered as either immoral or corrupt. In fact, having a depraved hero is as unrealistic as having a cold fire. Secondly, in order to be a hero, one must do something to earn the title; a hero simply cannot exist in a dreadful situation without taking action against it.
