Dictionary.com defines a hero as “a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal.” Keeping this in mind, one can see that a hero is so much more than the stereotyped attractive man in tights. A true hero can never be considered as either immoral or corrupt. In fact, having a depraved hero is as unrealistic as having a cold fire. Secondly, in order to be a hero, one must do something to earn the title; a hero simply cannot exist in a dreadful situation without taking action against it. Disregarding religious ties, foreign missionaries help save people from many situational dangers. Furthermore, missionaries leave their own homes to devote their lives to making others’ better, whether it be in providing food, shelter, or comfort to those in need. These true heroes focus on aiding people so entirely that most of these activists dedicate their entire lives to serving.
