Malintzin’s Choices Malintizin played a very important role during the Conquest of Mexico. She was very smart Indian women who assisted with Hernan Cortes during the conquest as a translator . She used her bilingual and social skills to gain trust with other Indians , so they could become allied with Cortes. While some other Indians didn’t comply , so the Spaniards retaliated . Throughout good and bad , she was the mediator between the Indian and Spaniards. She is the reason why Cortes and other Spaniards were successful in conquering the Mexico.

At the age six , Cortes took their son , Martin to Spain to become legitimized by the pope , so that he could be accepted by the military order of Santiago (171). To become an heir , Martin had to leave his indigenous identity behind . After Malintzin died , things were a little rocky for daughter Maria , her father was Juan Jaramillo . Her father married a fifteen year old name Dona Beatriz , she was the daughter of comendador of the order of Santiago . Maria and her young stepmother had issues , Beatriz critized her for having Indian blood. They were rumors saying that Maria wasn’t Jaramillo daughter and, there was a possibility that she was Cortes daughter. In 1941, a young man name Don Luis de Quesada from Grenada, took interest in Maria and he suggested that she would be his bride . Jaramillo was against it because she was too young and he didn’t trust Luis. He was very persistent young man and Jaramillo finally gave in, she married Luis. Maria and her husband learned that on her fathers will , she will received only a third of the encomida and her step mother will receive two third when he died . Maria will only receive a third of the encomida because she married Luis without her father’s permission. Between 1550 or 1551,Jaramillo was really ill , people recalled seeing Maria at her father’s house; Maria and her stepmother
