One of the most underlying and important themes of this play is the difficulties of love. Shakespeare touches on the fact that people fall in love with things that are beautiful to them; and will repeal things that are not. The attraction and draw to beauty might display a side of love at its most intense stage, but one of the main ideas in this play is that true love must surpass the mere external physical shell. A majority of the issues in this play arise from difficulties in romantic world, although it is not fully based on a love story. Demetrius and Lysander are both equally in love with Hermia, but she is only in love with Lysander.…

Dreams typically reveal a person’s innermost desires in life that they don’t act upon in reality. In the play, A Midsummer Night’s Dream written by William Shakespeare, Hermia’s dream conveys her unconscious desire yearning for Lysander’s true love reveals the play’s argument that a person’s vulnerabilities and most impulsive desire lie where one is not influenced by the consciousness and influence of others. Based on the psychology of the details Hermia reveals about her dream revolving around her wanton desires, crying for Lysander “to pluck this crawling serpent from my breast,” (2.2.152). For this Body Biography I will be doing Oberon, The King of Fairies. As symbols for him I chose to use the Indian boy, a potion/liquor, and a storm. The reason behind going with the Indian boy is to show how demanding he is and how he’ll do anything for what he wants. I chose the potion/liquor because it represents his power, but also once again shows how he likes being in control of situations. The storm defines his stubbornness and inability to become content with what he has.…

In A Midsummer Night’s Dream, true love seems to exist because of the fact that it is influenced by a divine being, the lovers triumph their hardships together, and both couples strive to love even when the other does not love them back. First off, true love can be affected by a divine being, and this is shown in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This is because of the fact that Oberon is a divine figure who has lots of godly powers as a fairy king.…

However, even the rude mechanicals and Puck are symbolic of one of the two themes. The lovers can be associated with either one of the themes, depending on the point in time in the story. For instance, Theseus and Oberon are symbolic of orderliness throughout the story, but Hermia and Lysander are not as easily defined. Theseus attempts to resolve the quarrel concerning the arranged marriage of Hermia and Demetrius in a calm, equitable fashion. Similarly, Oberon seeks to stop the chaos that ensues in the forest after Puck’s mistakes.…
