This poem “Invisible Soldier” by Sarge Lintecum is about a lady soldier that has come back from fighting for her country and doesn’t feel the appreciation according to the speaker. I think what this poem is trying to get across is that to never forget the people that served for our country. The speaker is this poem really supports the lady soldier as she thinks that the soldier should not be “invisible” any more. We know that she deserves to be remembered because in this poem the speaker states “She suffered hardship and never ceased to care”. In this sentence we can say that this soldier worked hard and cared about the well being of others before her.…

All Quiet on the Western Front Test Part One 1. This quote is significant because since they are so young and are fighting in a war, it kills their youth. If they had been older, it would have been easier for them to get accustomed to the war, but since they are so young it is the only thing they know. This is also significant because it shows that they realize that their youth is far behind them since they have seen all the death.…

The poem High Summer by John Hodgen critiques the affect prominent poets have on the thinking of future generation and examines the validity of these critiques made on the subjects they write about. In this poem, John Hodgen describes, in a plain spoken and blunt way, Walt Whitman helping wounded Civil War veterans in a makeshift military hospital. He uses candid comparisons to prove his points and alliteration to improve the readability of his poem at the end. In order to understand poems, the reader must have a historical and cultural understanding of the subject manner.…

World War 1 was believed to be the war that would end all wars. It was new, exciting and was expected to be over before the Christmas of 1914. Then, 4 years later, after gruesome trench warfare and severe casualties, our views on war changed completely. The days of enthusiastic enlistment dissolved, while the horrifying reality about the battlefield emerged. This change in beliefs, and the influence of generations, can be seen accurately through the poems, “Dulce Et Decorum Est” by Wilfred Owen and “Pro Patria” by Owen Seaman.…

The last stanza emphasizes that war destroys the soul of one being, and this is shown as the author uses abstract nouns such as: “strength,” “humanity,” and “entirety.” Overall, the hopeless tone and the use of vivid language deliberately creates a dark image of the society to the readers, conveying the message that the baby will lose its pureness once they come out into the real world and that it might be better if the baby elected death instead of life. Hide and Seek is thematically and structurally similar to Prayer Before Birth. Hide and Seek describes the sinister childhood where the character hides in the bushes, but his best friends all leave him alone during a game of hide and seek.…
