Hercules Never Give Up

Movies are watched across the globe by millions of people from various religions, cultures, and ethnicities. What often makes movies stand out across cultures and apart from one another is an overarching theme, or message, that supersedes the movie itself. Disney is known worldwide as being one of the world's best animated movie makers for a variety of reasons, including the themes found in many of the movies they produce. The movie Hercules, which Disney produced in 1997, is no exception. In Hercules, Disney´s use of style through setting, characters, and action helps to create the theme of never give up.
The movie Hercules is set in Ancient Greece, as one may have guessed based on mythology. Typically Ancient Greece is associated with a multitude of brave heroes who battled monsters and helped humanity. Through hearing and reading about some of the legends and events that took place in Greece one can assume that the heroes never gave up on their ultimate goals. In Hercules´ case, Mount Olympus was his ultimate goal, as that was where he thought he belonged. In Hercules, Mount Olympus is portrayed as one would expect- a place where gods reside. One prime example is Philoctetes. In the movie, Philoctetes (Phil) is a retired trainer who has trained heroes in the past such as Odysseus, Theseus, Perseus, Jason, and even Achilles. Due to the fact that all of these great heroes were eventually defeated Phil has given up training heroes. Then Hercules comes along and manages to convince Phil to train him. Though Phil is initially reluctant to get involved again with training a hero, he eventually comes full circle and refuses to give up on Hercules in his darkest hour. This level of devotion and determination amplifies the message of never give up to
